5 Of The Best Summer Accessories Of 2020

Looking for some new summer accessories to brighten up your wardrobe? We’ve been watching Instagram, parks and SS20 runways and it’s pretty clear these are the best and brightest trends of summer 2020.

Whether you’re planning a staycation, looking forward to a simple pint in the pub or making your backyard tanning next-level cool, you need these summer accessories.

Straw hats & visors

Sunsmart and stylish, a straw hat is a perfect way to achieve effortless summer glam, that’s a little House on the Prairie and a lot it-girl. Fancy something different? Try a visor – it’s a ’90s trend we didn’t expect to see again and now are obsessed with, of course.

Shell necklaces

Remember the days of collecting shells on the beach and threading them onto whatever ribbon/chain/rope you could find? Well here’s the grownup version of that, the ultimate beach babe look. We’ll be wearing all the shell jewellery we possibly can to make us feel like we’re on a tropical beach.

Cat-eye sunglasses

They’re cool, they’re sunsmart and they really don’t seem to be going anywhere. Cat-eye sunglasses are an easy way to bring effortless style to your look while getting a dose of vitamin-D. Pick the perfect pair for you in different colours and sizes.

Bucket hats

If you’d told me a few years ago that I’d be coveting a polka dot bucket hat, I would have laughed at you. A style I had put in the ‘only looks cute on kids’, bucket hats are now the summer accessories must-have (and I want one too!)

Straw totes

What else yells ‘summer’ like a straw tote, jammed with your suncream, chick-lit and beach towel…answer: nothing! So, while summer plans may look different – bring the spirit of beach getaways and coconut smelling sunscreen with a straw tote.

Freshen Up Your Hair, No Hairdresser Needed

Just because you’re staying in, doesn’t mean your accessories (and hair) can’t stand out – so the most stylish members of Team Accessorize are sharing their styling tips.

@henna.randhawa

First up, here’s Henna with 3 easy looks to keep your quarantine hair looking fresh.

zoom happy hour

Anyone else lost track of the Zoom happy hours, and meetings, they’ve attended?! We sure have. Look your best on your next call with little effort by taking inspo from Henna’s double clip look. Embrace your natural hair or go all out and curl your locks.

If you’re shying away from heat tools to give you hair a much-needed break, Henna suggests plaiting damp hair and leaving overnight. The next morning you’ll have dreamy waves.

garden glam

As warmer weather graces us with its presence we’re dreaming of the days where we’d dress up to head to the pub or the park. Instead of missing out, we’re popping on our favourite summer dresses and taming our manes with new season headbands. Bonus points for taking selfies like Henna, after all, the rare moments of glam need to be documented!

nine to thrive

First, we were asking if sweatpants were acceptable work attire and now we’re turning up to our desks in bikinis and activewear and calling it dressing up for work (hey, we put clothes on after all!)

Ensure your top half is fresh and fancy with an easy updo, complete with an on-trend scrunchie. The best part is this ’90s must-have takes the attention from the fact you haven’t washed your hair in a few days…

How To Enjoy Summer Activities At Home

The days are longer and sunnier and we are dreaming of picnics, festivals and outdoor cinemas. Just because summer looks a little different than anticipated, doesn’t mean these things are cancelled. We just have to get … creative.

With a little preparation (and a super cute outfit) you can be dancing in the sun all day long, watching your favourite film under the stars and sipping on Pimms while Serena Williams dances on the court.

Picnics

Let’s start simple with a picnic – a chance to eat all the delicious summer goodies while lazing in the sun and reading a good book.  The good news is that you can still do this! Either pop your blanket in the garden or on the patio or take a trip to the park. (following the rules, please!)

If you miss your friends, why not do it all together (over Zoom, of course). Share some of your fave recipes and maybe take it one step further reading the same book.

Festival

Ah, the event of the summer for many. There are few things more fun than dancing and singing to music you love with your besties. Well, the good news is you can still do this! Create a shared playlist on Spotify, or YouTube if you fancy music videos, pop on Zoom and have a festival dance party.  Don’t forget to dress up, cause that’s one of the best parts of the day, right?!

Make it even more authentic by lining up outside the toilet for at least 5 minutes!

Wimbledon

As one of the most anticipated sporting occasions of the summer, Wimbledon is also an excuse to show off your sophisticated style, and why should you miss out!? Pop on some tennis (YouTube is handy), grab some fresh strawberries and cream, make a Pimms and put on your winning outfit.

Don’t forget your Wimbledon-essential Panama Hat.

Outdoor cinema

Watching a film you love under the stars is pretty damn special! So, do it at home. Get together all your blankets and pillows, pop some popcorn and get the projector set up. If you don’t have a projector, just huddle around your laptop.

How To Look After Your Mental Wellbeing While At Home

As we all adapt to the new normal we’re presented with, there’s no denying we are all feeling a little … weird.

It’s totally ok to feel a bit overwhelmed and confused, which is why while we stay at home and make a new routine, we need to make sure we prioritise our mental health all day, every day, not just during mental health week.

We’ve got you covered with top tips from our team.

Practice mindful walking

This combines walking with mindfulness and it helps you tune into your environment and the present moment – stopping you from walking on autopilot.

It’s pretty easy, start your walk by standing still for a minute and take in the environment around you, the smells, the sounds, the sights. Start walking and do this as you go, also thinking about the actual walking – how does your body feel.

Most importantly, focus on your breath – deep and steady.

It can take a few days before you feel fully in tune, but it is an easy practice to master. There are also plenty of apps and podcasts that can help guide you through it!

Get into Journaling

Journalling is a great way to look after your mental health. Whether you use it as a way to write lists of things you love and want to achieve or as a time to reflect, it helps you recognise the things that are important to you.

Try with these prompts:

What are you grateful for?
How am I feeling?
How do you practice self-love?
Write a list of the things that make you happy – from big things to the smallest things.
What are some of your best memories?

Do at-home workouts

We all know exercise is key for our mental health. We love starting our day with yoga or pilates. Try and schedule it into your day, whether it’s morning yoga with the family or lunchtime Pilates class! Also, get creative for weights – filled drink bottles are handy, or cans, or wine bottles!

Drink plenty of water

At work, we tend to make more trips to the kitchen for a chat or to actually get a drink! At home, we tend to eat more … but can forget about drinking water. Grab yourself a bottle and keep it filled throughout the day. Plus, drinking water is great for your health and skin!

Friendly faces

It’s also so important that you continue to talk to your friends and work colleagues. Set aside 15 minutes a day for a ‘coffee’ with a work friend or 30 minutes a night once a week to chat with your best friend.

Brighten Your Wardrobe With Rainbow Accessories

During these unprecedented times, we are all looking for ways to spread cheer and hope, so it’s no surprise rainbows are popping up everywhere, from windows to our wardrobes.  A rainbow is a universal symbol for hope and also represents brighter times after a storm, or in this case a crazy uncertain time. Today it’s also a thank you to those doing their bit to create a safer community.

We are embracing this newfound adoration of multicolour with accessories that bring a smile to our faces. Whether we are staying in or taking our daily stroll, there’s something to brighten up every aspect of day-to-day life.

Technicolour Chill

Bring your lockdown lounging to a (bright) new level with our cosy rainbow scarves and socks. Pop on our rainbow rings, bracelet and hair clips for Thursday claps!

Walk The Stripe Way

Make your outing a stylish affair with our rainbow tote, cardholders and socks – perfect for spreading a little joy on your supermarket trip.

Oh Look At Hue

Pick up something brilliantly bright for your little ones and spread a little extra cheer during Thursday claps (and every other day).

Bright Spark

Ensure your homeschool classroom (and office) is as colourful as can be with our rainbow stationery.

We’re dreaming of brighter days, where our skin is sunkissed, our hair waves with saltwater curls and we’re wearing our swimwear all day, every day.

While our summer expectations might be a bit different from reality (our backyard and Hyde Park VS the Med…) we can still make our summer dreams come true. From long walks through the park to sunbathing on your patio, here are the hottest swimsuits that can be worn right now!

Swimsuits make the perfect layer. Whether it’s a bodysuit or a crop top, they’re oh-so-cool paired with denim shorts, a floaty skirt or a linen suit – the list goes on!

Our Top Picks

Take the look even further and be a little daring by pairing your favourite swimwear with something sheer – think, kaftans and belted kimonos.

We’ve put together a few of our favourite looks.

Park to (Zoom) Party

This colourful day time look will bring cheer to your (safe distance) park catch-up with your BFF. Add a gold chain and bold headband for an ‘oh-this-old-thing’ happy hour outfit.

Patio to Snack Run

Belt your kaftan and you’ll have a look that’ll take you from tanning at home to Tescos. Add gold accessories for an effortless dressed-up-to-leave-the-house look.

Just because you’re spending most of your time indoors, doesn’t mean you can’t jazz up your outfit with trending accessories.

There’s something nice about popping on a mood-boosting pair of earrings or a nice headband during these uncertain times – especially when your outfits are a rotation of sweatpants and activewear (which you are not being active in!)

That’s why we’ve made a list of this season’s best accessories trends that are perfect for adding a little cheer to your everyday. Plus, even if you’re wearing sweatpants on the bottom it means you look super chic and professional for your video calls!

The Gold Face Earrings, Eclectic Stone Drop Earrings and Opal Teardrop Earrings.

OVERSIZED CHAINS

Chains have been having a moment over the last few seasons, from it-girls on Instagram to everyone’s collection. This season, it’s all about bigger and bolder chains, either add them to your stack as a statement piece or wear alone for an effortlessly cool look.

We love…

The Gold Plated Chunky NecklaceChunky Chain Collar Necklace and Chain Collar Necklace.

RHINESTONE

Remember as a kid you adored everything bedazzled? Well, this is the grown-up version of the trend you loved so much.

We love…

The Sparkle Chandelier Earrings, Bib Necklace and Crystal Collar Necklace.

BOLD COLOUR

We love to have fun with our accessories (obviously), which is why we are all over this colourful and cheerful trend. It’s like an explosion of colour in our jewellery collection!

We love…

The Torque Stone Necklace, Pressed Flower Earrings and Multi-stripe Drop Earrings.

BIG HOOPS

One of our favourite contenders for ‘most versatile jewellery’ is the hoop! And this season anything goes; big, sparkly, chunky, twisted. We love them all.

We love…

The Crystal Hoop Earrings, Chunky Hoop Earrings and Gold-Plated Large Hoops

How To Have The Perfect Girls’ Night (Without Leaving the House)

So many things have changed in this new normal we find ourselves embracing – no more so than the way we socialise – or don’t.

If you’re starting to fun out of things to the people you share four walls with, reach out to your friends! Normally see your old school friends for dinner on a Tuesday? Set up a time, turn on the oven and have a dinner date via FaceTime.

Just because we can’t leave the house, doesn’t mean girls’ nights have to be a thing of the past.

So how can you make the most of seeing friends through a small screen?

Video Call Happy Hour

One of the best parts of girls’ night is getting all dolled up, whether that’s your new dress you’ve saved for the occasion with the perfect hoops or hairband. Instead of girls’ night in your sweats (like ever other night during isolation), pop on some music, get the girls on FaceTime and get dressed up (to go and sit in the lounge!)

Just cause you aren’t leaving the house, get dressed up with our fave on-trend accessories.

Start a Book Club

Now that you have a lot more free time on your hands…it’s a great time to snuggle up with a good book! Even better, use this time to create a book club with your friends – and when we are allowed out of the house, it’s a great way to catch up! It’s simple, first pick a name for your book club and then decide on the first book! Set yourselves time to read it and then catch up to discuss your favourite bits/things you didn’t like/what you learnt from the book (you can Google ‘book club questions’ for more).

Some of our teams fave books include:

  • Everything I Know About Love – Dolly Alderton
  • Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine – Gail Honeyman
  • Becoming – Michelle Obama
  • Shantaram – Gregory David Roberts
  • Such a Fun Age – Kiley Reid
  • Kite Runner – Khaled Hosseini
  • I Am Malala – Malala Yousafzai

The number one rule of book club?  Stay comfy, say in loungewear! FYI number two is have plenty of snacks!

Netflix Party + Chill

Let’s be honest, a lot of our conversations revolve around the latest show we’re watching and whether we love/hate/can’t even with last nights episode. So, don’t let that end because you can’t sprawl out on your besties couch. Instead, set up Netflix Party and gossip away!

Some of our teams top picks for easy watching with the girls include:

  • Cheer
  • Grace and Frankie
  • Love is Blind
  • Self Made
  • Next in Fashion
  • Brooklyn 99

The one plus to being at home alone? You can don’t have to put clothes on, so get cosy in our favourite lingerie and socks!

At Home Spa

One thing that’s had a glow up in the past few years is sleepover makeovers – no longer cucumber on the eyes and some strange homemade facemask concontion, we are all about the brightest and best clay and sheet masks. So set up your phones, pop on facemasks and talk about anything and everything with your girls (just no prank calling, we left that in our childhoods!)

Keep your hair out of our face with our coolest headbands and scrunchies (plus, they make the photos way cuter).

How To Thrive While Staying at Home

Whether you’re working while at home or using the time to catch up on a good book, we’ve got everything you need to create the perfect home office or relaxing sanctuary (or both!)

CREATE A WORK SPACE

If you are working or studying from home the best way to keep your head in the game (and get your work done) is to create a space to work – in other words, do not work from bed! The best way to drag yourself out of the duvet? Set up a nice space to work from and complete it with stationery that makes you want to work! Think, flat-lay worthy pens, fun notebooks and this happy vibe pencil case.

VIDEO CALL IN STYLE

Whether you’re logging into a morning meeting or ‘meeting’ the girls for Friday night drinks, there will come a time where 3-day-dirty-hair-top-knot and your old hoodie won’t cut it! Don’t worry, we aren’t suggesting a next level glow up – though there is something fun in a makeover! All we are suggesting is some little mood-boosting touches to your stay-at-home outfit that bring a bit of joy! Think: A cool scrunchie to adorn the 3-day-dirty-hair-top-knot or some chunky layered necklaces to make your hoodie casual chic!

If you need want a little more inspo, why not try and master the perfect pony or the perfect bun – don’t worry, both can be done in a matter of minutes!

WRITE ABOUT IT

Whether you’re looking for a creative outlet or you need somewhere to write about the feelings and stresses you’re experiencing, journalling and writing is a great way to spend your time at home!

We love the Jasmine Floral Notebook (the same as our bestselling bag!) and the Initial Notebook Range. Cause everyone knows you need a good notebook for things like this!

ORGANISE YOUR LIFE

Embrace the life-changing magic of having an organised life and sort out your stuff! After all, what better time to spring clean.

  1. Clean out your makeup, getting rid of old things (we all have them). Then, pop then in a nice clear case – very picture worthy.
  2. Get all your travel bits together in a travel document holder – and check your passport isn’t expired.
  3. Untangle your headphones and charging cords and pop them in this handy – and cute – tech organiser

STAY COMFY

Again, if you have to get out of bed (which you do!) you may as well stay as cosy as possible. That’s why we are all about leisurewear – the cosier the better. Pair it with some fun socks and you’re set!
