As we all settle into winter with its chunky knits and cosy layers, the fashion world already has its eye firmly on SS17. Now that the frenzy of LFW is over, we’re revisiting the best runway shows to get a head start on what will be the biggest accessory trends for next season.
Supersized Earrings
From cascading floral garlands at Delpozo to oversized pearls at Marni and wishbone-shaped doorknockers at Proenza Schouler, supersized earrings were the only way to go on the SS17 catwalks. To get a head-start on the trend, look out for huge tassels, chunky structures and face-framing proportions, and make earrings your new ‘it’ accessory.

Western Detailing
Neckerchiefs, studded jean belts, cowboy hats and fringed bags; next season’s accessories come with a wild west twist. Anna Sui showed a literal interpretation of the theme with head-to-toe cowboy inspired looks, whereas the likes of Ralph Lauren and Vivienne Tam were more subtle, combining the trend with other influences for a more wearable look.

Chunky Soles
After a season of neat, flat loafers, fashion has rebelled with a wave of chunky soled sandals. Proenza Schouler, Lacoste and Philip Lim all flew the flag for a more extreme approach to summer footwear, ripping up the rule book with super thick wooden soles, animal prints and bold colours. Expect to see these on your favourite street style stars very soon.

Mini Bags
Start paring down your everyday essentials because this spring the handbag is having a mini makeover. Spotted across the catwalks at Valentino, Hermes and Burberry the micro bag has to be the cutest trend of the season. Layer them up across body or attach, charm style, to a larger bag for a more practical take on the look.

Statement Sunglasses
Sunglasses got an architectural make-over with a vintage-inspired spin. ’50s and ’70s shapes were the starting point for Alice + Olivia, Rosie Assoulin and Thom Brown, who added colour pops and embellishment for new season appeal. There was no limit to the size and shape of our favourite summer accessory, with Jeremy Scott dressing his models in huge, asymmetrical frames. Think big when it comes to eyewear next season!
