Top 8 Fictional School Uniforms

Heading back to school? To ease you back into the classroom, we’ve rounded up our top 8 fictional school uniforms, as worn by the star students from our favourite films and TV shows. Think dodgy blazers, pleated skirts and a whole load of stripy ties…

1. Blair Waldorf (Gossip Girl)

When she wasn’t stirring up trouble that lead to yet another dramatic scandal, the sassiest girl on the Upper East Side was giving us major school uniform envy. From her pristine collared shirts and knee-high socks to her iconic headbands, Blair Waldorf hid her wicked ways underneath a neat-as-a-pin private schoolgirl demeanour that had (almost) everyone fooled.

2. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)

Although we spent most of our childhood waiting for our letter from Hogwarts (OK, we’re still waiting), we’ve got to admit that the school uniform did sometimes remind us of our own: stripy tie, itchy grey sweater and pleated knee-length skirt. But we’d have happily put up with that if it meant we could’ve swanned around the school corridors in long, black robes, brandishing a wand like Hermione Granger.

3. Mia Thermopolis (The Princess Diaries)

Proving that even princesses have to stick to the school’s strict uniform policy, Mia Thermopolis somehow managed to make the stuffy-blazer-and-sensible-plaid-skirt look work – even before her glamorous royal makeover. The perks having the Queen of Genovia for a grandma, eh?

4. Jenny Mellor (An Education)

Floral shift dresses, beehives and trench coats… Jenny Mellor’s wardrobe in An Education was a true vintage goldmine. But when she wasn’t glamming up to be wined and dined by her much older boyfriend, Jen spent most of her time hanging out with her mates in a regulation white skirt and an A-line grey skirt that gave us serious sixties’ feels.

5. Mildred Hubble (The Worst Witch)

You’ve got to hand it to Mildred Hubble. It couldn’t have been easy to mix all those potions and get your uncooperative Tabby cat (they ran out of black ones, apparently) to sit on your broomstick with the likes of Miss Hardbroom breathing down your neck. Who wouldn’t look scruffy with that kind of pressure? Although for the record, we think our main girl Millie totally nailed the crooked hat, black cloak and untied shoelaces combo.

6. Georgia Nicholson (Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging)

The bottle green blazer, the customised bag (pin badges everywhere!) and the too-short red tie that would’ve definitely landed us a detention… Georgia’s uniform in Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging took us right back to our own school days. Can’t say we ever went to a fancy dress party as a stuffed olive though.

7. Rory Gilmore (Gilmore Girls)

Before the recent revival of Gilmore Girls (best decision ever, FYI), Rory Gilmore spent a lot of time wearing the ultra-posh school uniform from Chilton Preparatory School. From her fitted navy blazer right down to her knee-length plaid skirt, Rory worked the prim-and-proper look like a total pro.

8. Sarah, Nancy, Bonnie & Rochelle (The Craft)

Between casting spells on their classmates and levitating each other in their bedrooms, Sarah, Nancy Bonnie and Rochelle used their supernatural talents to style their high school uniforms into total ‘90s dreams. Think alt-girl silver chains, black boots and all the studs.
