From backstage Insta stories to runway live streams, we’ve been living and breathing New York Fashion Week over the past few days. The Big Apple always serves up Fashion Week with a slice of sleek understatement and urban cool, giving the city its own distinct fashion language. The editors and street stylers had to brave the snow to make it to the shows but we’ve got the full low-down right here for you.
The Most-Hyped Shows
Calvin Klein was the show on everyone’s mind – the first since ex-Dior creative director Raf Simons took the helm. Simons didn’t put a foot wrong, mixing CK’s definitive brand of minimalism with nods to Americana and plenty of denim. Colours were bold, fabrics were daring and we’re loving the new era for this iconic label.
Calvin Klein wasn’t the only show that drew attention, though. Christian Siriano made waves with his accessible glamour and body positive inclusive casting, while our favourite ex-Spice Girl Victoria Beckham got full marks once again for her unique blend of structure and slouch. We can definitely see ourselves wearing sharp blazers over fluid dresses next season.
Celeb Spots
NYFW is always there for a game of spot the celebrity and you don’t have to look hard. The Hadid sisters graced more runways than we can count, from the super-cool Zadig & Voltaire to the always OTT Jeremy Scott.
Off the runway, the Beckham clan were out in full force to show their support to Victoria and the Calvin Klein FROW was a who’s who of fashion insiders and style icons. Our fave rising star (and new face of the brand) Millie Bobby Brown channelled a biker vibe, while Alexa Chung gave us serious SS17 inspiration in her white crochet dress. She posed with Karlie Kloss who took her look in the exact opposite direction, looking amazing in head to toe black.
The Trends
We’ve had our eyes peeled for the freshest new trends this NYFW. First up, mismatched earrings are set to be big news for AW17, with Proenza Schouler, Zadig & Voltaire and 3.1 Philip Lim making up some of the labels that set the trend. Whether it’s an asymmetric set or a single statement earring, the new rule is mix, don’t match.
From supersized earrings to tiny bags. Milly, Tory Burch, Oscar de la Renta, Jason Wu and Altazurra all armed their models with miniscule bags, so be prepared to scale down your daily essentials next season…
We’re pretty excited to see what London Fashion Week has in store for us next!
