How to Wear the Citrus Trend

Hailing from the Amalfi Coast, the Sorrento lemon is the pick of the bunch when it comes to summer styling, whether worn in print form on exotic escapes or artfully arranged on white-washed backdrops for Instagram. Naturally, we’re focusing on the former with the freshly-squeezed picks from our new-season collection – here’s our guide to wearing the citrus trend in SS19.

1. Start with White

How to make the citrus trend feel instantly SS19? Wear it with white. From cutwork sundresses to cool co-ords, pale palettes provide the perfect blank canvas when it comes to showcasing zesty accessories – think lemon-print headbands, beach bags and statement earrings in delicious tones of yellow.

2. Add a Swimsuit

Printed with polka dots in refreshing shades of yellow and white, this one-piece wonder is proof that the lemon trend can be referenced in more ways than one. Designed with a front cut-out and a low back detail, this sun-ready swimsuit adds a taste of the new to an otherwise classic print story.

3. Mix in Texture

Say ciao the clutch bag of our dreams. Woven from wicker, this crescent-shaped design is adorned with an appliquéd slogan and beaded lemons, nodding to the citrus trend in a subtler way. It’s finished with tasselled zip and boasts a slim-line shape – perfect for slipping into your suitcase.

4. Finish with Fruit

Whether going all-out or taking on the citrus trend in a more curated way, fruit-themed bags are a fun, playful way to elevate every warm-weather look. Be it a beaded lemon or circular style with appliquéd orange segments, each pick is set to become the day-to-dark staple of those warm summer months.

Designed for Good: The Upcycled Tote Bag

As part of our sustainable collection, Designed for Good, we’ve partnered with the women at the Radico Welfare Centre in New Delhi, India to create a new range of hand-crafted tote bags, made from recycled materials. Here, we meet Lalita, one of our talented artisans, to find out more about how each bag was made, as well as how she’s benefitted from the projects run through the centre.

The Upcycled Totes

Hand-crafted by artisans, our upcycled tote bags combine natural jute with patterned fabric braids that would have otherwise ended up in landfill. Sturdy and spacious, these eco-friendly designs are available in navy and pink, and come with a rounded base and two handles for added practicality.

Meet the Artisan

Lalita is one of the artisans and beneficiaries of the Radico Welfare Centre. Keen to help support her family’s low income, Lalita enrolled in one of the centre’s charitable projects where she is learning how to sew on a training course. Along with the other women at the centre, she’s used some of her new-found skills to help make hand-crafted and upcycled tote bags exclusively for Accessorize, using waste fabric which has been braided to create beautiful, unique patterns.  Upon receiving her first set of wages, Lalita felt emotional. She told us, “I have never held an amount this big in my own hands – I can’t believe it is for real”. She now hopes to start a small business with her husband.

Lemon Prints: On Holiday

Inspired by our in-house designer’s childhood adventures to the Amalfi Coast, this lemon bikini is your feel-good favourite for a summer holiday. Not only are these yellow and orange tones a key trend for the season, but this retro knotted shape is diving back into fashion’s focus. Tie the look together with a matching scarf: perfect for taming those salty beach curls after a dip in the ocean.

When it comes to the cover-up, a lace kimono layers bohemian cool into the look. This beautifully sheer design lets your colour-pop swimwear steal the attention, while its floral embroideries carry through the natural motifs. Keep things feeling light and fresh with a pair of white sliders, featuring mirror embellishments for a little sun-loving shine.

Lemon Prints: At Home

You’ve touched down on home ground, but the spirit of summer doesn’t need to stay on your vacation. Breathe the lemon trend into everyday looks with a hint of colour against a crisp, white outfit. The hair accessories of the moment do this in the most effortless way, while raffia earrings bring the season’s natural textures into play too.

A woven straw bag makes it so easy to transition your style back to the everyday from a tropical escape – just swap out your beach towel and flip flops for your everyday essentials. This spacious design is splashed with our exclusive lemon print to its fabric handles to keep the holiday memories coming.

Design Stories: Hand-Crafted Macramé Bags

Arts and crafts, but make it fashion. Saluting the straw styles and basket bags that we’ve been loving for several seasons now, macramé and crochet are having a well-deserved moment in SS19. Here, we take a look at the runway routes of the trend, as well as exploring the design story behind the hand-crafted macramé bags in our new-season collection.

On the Runway

Left to right: Oscar De La Renta | Chloé | Salvatore Ferragamo

From crochet to macramé, hand-crafted techniques have made their presence known on the recent runways. Oscar de la Renta showcased the trend through a crocheted silk dress in a monochrome colour palette, while a similar story unfolded at Salvatore Ferragamo with a statement-making macramé maxi, fashioned from black suede. Over at Chloé, free-spirited femininity was expressed with a sheer crochet sun dress in pure white, styled for the catwalk with a violet bikini.

The Inspiration

“For the macramé and crochet pieces within the beach range, we sourced inspiration from a mixture of catwalk shows, vintage, and festivals. Development trips to India enabled teams to work directly with the suppliers on new and interesting woven techniques and designs. The final pieces are authentic and can be worn layered over clothing and swimwear for a unique styled look.”

– Charlotte Wood, Assistant Designer (Beach)

As Seen On

Macramé is making waves on the city streets. Loved by the likes of fashion blogger Aysen Miller (@stylebyaysh), hand-crafted designs in soft cream and classic black are proving to be the most stylish (and versatile) pieces of the spring/summer months, instantly lifting the mood of every look – even if the weather isn’t playing ball. From spacious fringed totes to sleek circular styles, we like how these woven wonders are just at chic on home ground as they are in far-flung destinations.

Seashell Jewellery: On Holiday

Summer getaways are the perfect place to showcase the souvenir staples that we all know and love. Sun dresses and swimsuits are the dreamiest backdrops for mismatched shell and pearl-bead necklaces and shoulder-grazing earrings, nodding to the nostalgic designs that most of us wore as children. Reading more chic than beach, this season’s styles also combine with gold-tone metals and abstract shapes for a fresh, directional feel.

Seashell Jewellery: At Home

Back on our shores, seashells are still retaining their relevance. Long, layered chains, stacked bracelets and cowrie-embellished earrings are the memento pieces that we’re taking back from the beach and styling with our summer favourites. For something that feels city-appropriate, wear yours against a tonal white palette, highlighting the natural hues of the jewels with a slatted wood bag.

10 Woven Bags We Need for SS19

Straw, raffia and wicker: woven bags have won our hearts this season. Having risen in the fashion ranks during the fifties, totes in natural textures became associated with luxury travel, with the trend now extending fay beyond the beach. Here are the 10 woven bags we need for SS19…

1. Woven Jute Handheld Bag

Handcrafted for a unique feel, our woven jute bag (as seen on Faye Ellaby) is the new-season style hero we never knew we needed until now. Equally at home in the city as it is on the beach, this handheld design features raffia ring handles for a subtle clash of texture while its zip-top fastening helps keep summer essentials secure.

2. Cherry Straw Cross-Body Bag

The straw bag just got even sweeter. Having had the influencer seal of approval by Megan Ellaby, this cross-body design comes with cherry pom-poms for extra summer flavour, making it a true sunny-day mainstay. Carry it by the handles or wear it over the shoulder by the long leather-look strap.

3. Metal Ring-Handle Bucket

Make way for the bucket bag of the summer. Structured without feeling too polished, this straw style is spliced with leather-look panels in clean white and is finished with glossy gold-tone metal ring handles for effortless cool. Need to go hands-free? Wear it cross-body using the detachable shoulder strap.

4. Glitzy Straw Basket Bag

It’s time to shine in the sunlight. Woven with a metallic chevron design, this handcrafted straw basket bag will sparkle its way from city breaks to beach escapes. It has an integrated drawstring pouch to help keep belongings safe, while its long leather-look handles are made to fit comfortably over your shoulder.

5. Wicker Cross-Body Bag

Having evolved from a quirky holiday buy to a fashion staple, the wicker bag is back in force for SS19. This season’s iteration boasts a structured boxy shape with blue straps and a striped canvas lining, nodding to nautical styling. Perfect for the beach and beyond.

6. City Wicker Cross-Body Bag

No longer reserved solely for the beach, the wicker bag has had a city-ready update. This boxy cross-body comes with a tan leather-look panel for extra polish and closes with a push-lock fastening in glossy gold metal – sun-filled weekends, we’re ready.

7. Wicker Circle Cross-Body Bag

Moving on from the straw circle bags of last summer, this season’s styles combine woven wicker textures with hexagonal shapes. This design is detailed with cut-outs that feel fresh and directional and is finished with a long shoulder strap in leather-look tan.

 8. Wicker Bucket Bag

Summer days, here we come.  Drawing its inspiration from bucket-bag silhouettes, this wicker wonder has a structured shape which feels nostalgic and new at the same time. Fashion-forward yet fuss-free, this piece has leather-look tabs and a long shoulder strap in soft pink, lending it an unexpected element.

9. Wooden Handheld Bag

Evocative of long, languid days spent in the sunshine, the wooden bag has made its comeback for SS19. The slatted structure creates a see-through effect, while its handles are adorned with small clear beads for an artful touch.

10. Wooden Crescent Handheld Bag

Lighter in colour than its style counterpart, this slatted wooden bag is crafted in the shape of a crescent, lending it plenty of Instagram-worthy appeal. Whether worn with denim or a wind-blown sun dress on your next getaway, it’s a must-have for warm weather.

Webbing Straps: The New Bag Trend of SS19

How to Perfect French Riviera Style

Capturing the nostalgia of the Côte d’Azur, French-girl summer styling has anchored itself for yet another season. Nautical stripes, straw bags and retro shapes remain the fashion favourites of long, sun-soaked days spent on the Mediterranean coast, and we’re more than ready to jump on board the trend for our next getaway.  From the ever-chic sun dress to easy-going accessories, here’s how to perfect French Riviera style this summer…

1. See the Stripes

This season’s nautical stripes are no longer uniform, with variegated lines in sun-bleached tones taking over from their classic counterparts. Find them on wind-blown midi dresses to take you through the holiday heatwave, with deckchair reds and washed sea-blues offering a new perspective on summer’s favourite trend.

2. Play it Cool

Make way for the ultimate summer playsuit. Designed in retro red, this all-in-one has a flattering (and comfortable) shirred back and is edged with frills for a playful touch. Style it for sun-soaked strolls on the promenade with cat-eye shades and natural straw accessories.

3. Mix Your Prints

Mix it, match it, wear it your way. Evoke feelings of French flair with a polka dot bikini in with a high-rise waist and scalloped edges, clashing it with nautical stripes and anchors for a look that feels unexpected yet irrevocably cool.

4. Decked Out

Straw bags, seashell jewellery and oversized sunnies:  referencing the retro mood of the Côte d’Azur has never been easier. Whether you’re going all-out or simply after a few subtle details, these summer add-ons prove to be the perfect way to nod to French-girl glamour this summer.

Webbing Straps: The New Bag Trend of SS19

Webbing straps: the new design detail that’s been catching our eye in SS19. Inspired by the logomania trend of recent seasons, these woven wonders are giving our everyday bags a whole new lease of life, lending them a high-fashion feel with minimum effort. Here are two of our favourite new arrivals…

Rainbow Mood

The SS19 way to reference the rainbow trend? It’s all in the details. Shining bright with red, orange, gold, blue and green stripes, this woven strap is cool and considered, and offers an easy way to elevate the classic black cross-body bag. Let yours lift the mood of easy tees and denim combinations, before clashing it with sequins as the sun goes down.

Stripe Out

Nodding to sports luxe styles, this striped webbing strap adds a refined, retro touch to the luxe leather cross-body bag. We like that it can be adjusted and detached to create a versatile look that suits your style mood – wear yours with denim for relaxed glamour.

Design Stories: The Toile de Jolie Print

Inspired by the SS19 runways, the Toile de Jolie collection puts a modern spin on botanical etchings from Victorian gardens with hand-painted prints on clean, contemporary designs. Created in our in-house London studio, exclusively for Accessorize, we take a closer look at spring’s freshest print, flourishing across the season’s must-have accessories and gift ideas that are perfect for Mother’s Day.

On the Runway

Oscar de la Renta, Resort 2019 | Dior, Cruise 2019 |  Oscar De La Renta, Resort 2019

Having originated from the small French town of Jouy-en-Josas, not far from Paris, toile prints combine illustrative landscapes and buildings with decorative florals. Favoured by the aristocratic elite in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century France, the pictorial print has become synonymous with classic English interiors and has recently seen a revival on the SS19 runways. Artful designs on long, languid silhouettes were prominent in Oscar de la Renta’s most recent resort collection, while the motif underwent a modern makeover at Dior with the inclusion of animal prints on sports-luxe sweatshirts.

The Toile Neckerchief

Hand-painted florals bloom across this silky-soft neckerchief, accompanied by sketches of stately homes for a true nod to nostalgia. The classic colour palette of blue and white suits spring’s lighter mood and offers an easy refresh to new-season outfit options. Knot it around your neck or ponytail or tie it onto the handles of your tote bag.

The Toile Bags

Want a bolder way to wear this season’s toile prints? It’s all in the bag. From spacious totes to the cross-body styles of spring, these printed pieces lend vintage flair to simple silhouettes. Let them take full focus against pared-back palettes for a fuss-free transition into warmer weather.

Trending Now: The Hair Accessories of SS19

Hair accessories are back in fashion’s favour, and if the front rows are anything to go by, then we’re going to be embracing them for seasons to come. Our advice? Put down your made-to-blend-in kirby grips and grasp something all the more statement making. From bands to barrettes, here are the hair accessories you’ll want to add to your SS19 collection.

Two of a Kind

When it comes to the hair-clip trend, make it a double. As seen on street stylers the world over, the chicest way to keep those flyaways tamed this season is with two identical clips sitting side by side. Choose mottled bars of resin for a sleek, uniform feel that translates as ‘grown up’, or embrace the snap clips of your playground memories for something a little quirkier.

With the Band

Once a badge of honour for New York’s Upper East Siders – thank you, Blair Waldorf – the headband is back on our radar with an all-new sense of cool. The preppy aesthetic is taken down a peg thanks to loud prints, with punchy leopard spots and beachy palms issuing a bold twist to gathered fabrics. Team yours with a pair of statement earrings: the headband is perfect for showing them off.

Pearl Power

The lustre of pearls still has the fashion world in a trance, and now they’re gaining fresh appreciation in our everyday hairstyles. A chunky barrette clip is the way to go for a single pop of the pearl trend, while a trail of dainty bulldog clips with pearly flowers has an ultra-pretty effect on braids and twists.
