Vinyl and Resin: The Key Trend Pieces to Watch in SS19

Say it loud and clear – vinyl and resin are rising high in the fashion ranks this season, with transparent textures and acrylic accessories making up some of our most-desired designs. An established runway and street style favourite, patent pieces are now all over our new arrivals – here are the fashion finds you need in SS19.

As Seen On

A quick scroll on Instagram is more than enough to prove the popularity of vinyl and resin, with see-through styles, marbled motifs and tortoiseshell finishes adorning the outfits of our favourite fashion influencers. Highlights include Laura Byrnes taking on tonal styling via a nude cross-body bag with a layer of vinyl and Karina Marriott making a statement with a cool resin hair slide in speckled blue.

1. Cross the Line

How to make the cross-body bag feel instantly more SS19? Cover it in vinyl. From woven bucket shapes to tropical-print totes, these PVC pieces are the fashion icons to invest in this season. Wear yours with everything from tees and jeans to spring’s floatiest midi dresses.

2. Play by Ear

This season, resin rules – and our new drop of statement earrings are here to prove it. Sculptural shapes come in classic tortoiseshell and marble-soft styles, with everything from rich emeralds to powdery pinks thrown into the mix.

3. Tote it Up

Enter the totes of note for SS19.  Whether opting for lined designs or keeping it transparent, these spacious styles are the new-season way to go supersized with your accessories. We like how they lend themselves well to work, weekends and even the beach.

4. Let’s Accessorize

Resin’s reign doesn’t end with earrings. Statement hair slides, stacking rings and belts with stand-out buckles are all getting in on the acrylic action, allowing you to add subtle hints of the trend into everyday looks.

3 Statement Accessories for Spring Events

This spring, adorn yourself with the event-worthy  accessories that are easy, elegant and sensual at the same time. Be it jewellery or the it-bags of SS19, here are the three statement trends to wear to this season’s invites.

1. The Beaded Bag

Any avid scroller on Instagram will know that beaded bags are currently the most-coveted accessory of the street style pack. Referencing vintage designs, these nostalgic numbers are delightfully adorned with pretty plastic beads, adding a fun, feel-good feel to your SS19 wardrobe. When it comes to special occasions, opt for a pearlescent piece that’ll go with just about everything in your event season line-up, carrying it by the handle for a nonchalant look.

2. The Embellished Bag

Embellished bags have upped their style game for SS19. No longer confined to the classic clutch, statement sparkle can now be found on the season’s newest silhouettes, from top-handle pouches to drawstring duffels.  For something that feels distinctly of-the-moment for springtime soirees, look out for oversized sequins and 3D flowers in iridescent colour palettes.

3. The Statement Earrings

The Statement Earrings

How to make statement earrings feel instantly more SS19? Make it supersized. Tiered tassels on long-drop designs and thread-wrapped metals make up the stand-out styles of the new season, lending a directional feel to after-dark dressing. Show yours off with tied or tucked-back hair.

Designed for Good: Introducing Our Recycled Scarves

Introducing Designed for Good, the new sustainable collection from Accessorize. As part of our ongoing mission to be kinder to the planet, we’ve created an exclusively-designed range of scarves made from recycled plastic bottles. This means that each piece uses less water, fuel and chemicals in their production process which, as a result, emits fewer greenhouse gases. Take a look at your new-feel good favourites now…

1. The Brushstroke Scarf

As seen on @lauraslittlelocket

Sweeping brushstrokes in light pastel hues lend a fresh, spring-like feel to this eco-conscious style, designed with a soft, neutral base. Complement the colour palette by layering it over a cream coat and knit like style blogger Laura – the perfect way to lift the mood of a tonal look.

2. The Bluebell Scarf

As seen on @styleidealist

The pretty floral print on this recycled scarf has been exclusively-designed in our London studio, meaning you won’t see it anywhere else on the high street. Make like style blogger Karina and wear yours over a colour-pop coat during the transition to spring, switching to a denim jacket as the weather warms up.

3. The Abstract Scarf

Palm prints mix with abstract blocks of colour on this oversized style, crafted entirely from recycled plastic bottles.  The perfect piece to lead you into spring and summer, this planet-friendly design is versatile enough to be worn with tees and jeans, as it is with a smarter, tonal outfit.

4. The London Scarf

Splashed with colour and print, this recycled scarf blends illustrated scenes of London with hand-written place names and fresh spring florals. It’s finished with a thick red and navy stripe, and brings a sense of bold to pared-back looks.

Street Style: &FINALLY at London Fashion Week

Introducing SS19, the street style way. See how Florrie Thomas and Anna Vitiello, fashion editors and creators of &FINALLY, are styling the season’s key looks and accessories as they take to the capital’s streets for London Fashion Week. For more inspiration, don’t forget to follow their full fashion takeover over on our Instagram.

Which trends are you most looking forward to wearing in SS19?

Florrie: This summer seems to be an extension of last summer in terms of trends (which we love as we hate the idea of fad trends that are ‘over’ after a season). This is music to our ears as we were all over the laid-back vibe of last summer. Shells, raffia, linen and all things woven seem to be very of-the-moment, as well as anklets, beaded earrings and long pendants. They’re all things we’ve loved for a long time so it’s great that they’re back.

Anna: Linen suiting, tailored shorts, woven bags, big shoulders and hair clips. Winter is really my season but when the weather warms up, I can’t wait to get into those lighter fabrics and summery textures.

Where do you go for fashion inspiration?

F: Like most people, Instagram is our go-to platform for inspiration. Whether it’s sending each other posts to use as references for shoots, discovering new brands or personally following accounts for inspiration on dressing, it really is full of fashion inspiration.

A: We’re also both avid Pinterest users. There’s so much incredible fashion on there and there’s nothing like a mood board to inspire your styling and ideas when creating content, be it for editorial or social.

*Hair clips coming soon.

Who are you favourite fashion influencers?

F: There are so many out there that provide so much inspiration! I love the Danish girls like Jeanette Madsen and Emili Sindlev for their sense of fun and ability to pair unexpected prints and colours together in a way that feels so fresh.

A: I’ll go by my most-saved because it would be impossible to choose otherwise. Evangelie Smyrniotaki has an eye like no one else on Instagram, and I love my girl Doina Ciobanu for the same reason. I also love so many of my friends for their personality that shines through their feeds: Xenia Adonts, Florrie Thomas, Chrissy Rutherford, Bettina Looney and Nina Suess. I check all their accounts regularly (especially if I don’t see them that often) because they genuinely inspire me.

Design Stories: The Embroidered Flower Statement Earrings

As far as jewellery trends are concerned, statement earrings are a non-mover on the fashion agenda – and SS19 is no exception. Sequins, tassels, embroideries and modern resins are everywhere to be seen in our new-season collection, inspired by the delightfully quirky adornments seen on the runways. To show our appreciation for the punchiest pieces of the moment, we headed behind the scenes with Natalie Benmayor, Senior Jewellery Designer, in our London studio to uncover the design story of one of our most-coveted pairs…

Tell us the design story behind the earrings…

We combined the enduring statement earring trend with fresh spring florals, interpreting them into a 3D design to create something that feels high-impact and feminine. Each flower has been hand-embroidered by artisans in India, using a combination of beads and needlework. They also have a two-layer 3D structure which adds depth to the design.

How will you be wearing them?

They’re really versatile! Each pair can be styled from day to night; wear with a simple t-shirt and jeans for a fresh edge, or to a wedding or summer party with an occasion dress.

Meet the Accessorize Design Team

Ever wondered who designs our fashion treasures? Let us introduce you to the Accessorize design team. Transforming sketches and samples to bona fide style must-haves right here in our London studio, we meet the women who bring the brand to life…

Minna Mia Holland, Senior Designer (Soft Accessories/Cold Weather) and Charlotte Wood, Assistant Designer (Beach/Swim)

What’s the best thing about your job?

Travel. I have had the opportunity to live and work in different countries over the course of my career and met some wonderful people and had some crazy experiences along the way!  It has been a real privilege to learn from all the brilliantly creative and talented craftspeople I have worked with over the years. The relationships I have built with people around the world are really special to me and are a constant source of joy and inspiration!

– Minna Mia Holland, Senior Designer (Soft Accessories/Cold Weather)

I love the fact that every single Accessorize product is designed from scratch in our London studios. It means that every single product within each range is given love and ownership from start to finish. It’s always such an amazing feeling seeing a product you have designed and overseen from the start, brought to life in a campaign shoot. The team I work with are all incredibly creative, inspiring, talented and, most importantly, we all share a huge passion for the design of beautiful products.

– Charlotte Wood, Assistant Designer (Beach/Swim)

Cassie Anne Worman, Junior Jewellery Designer

Where do you find your inspiration?

You can’t beat going out and exploring, be it travel and culture, art, history, literature or food. There are so many avenues – it’s just about getting out there, finding and translating them.

– Cassie Anne Worman, Junior Jewellery Designer

Everywhere! One of the great things about being creative is that inspiration can be found in the most obscure or apparently mundane places. I once met an inspiring elderly lady who had taken up textiles late in life – even doing a degree in her late eighties. She told me how it had made her see the world differently and that she now noticed much more beauty in everyday things. We both agreed we loved this open way of seeing – what could be better than that?

– Minna Mia Holland, Senior Designer (Soft Accessories/Cold Weather)

Ann Magritt, Senior Designer (Handbags) and Hannah Callaghan, Handbag Designer

Who’s your favourite designer and why?

Miuccia Prada for being daring and really different – she once said “what you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today when human contacts go so fast. Fashion is instant language”. I love the idea that fashion can be a language and how you use it tells your story. The great thing with accessories is that they are easy purchases that can enhance not just your look but your mood – and the mood of those around you.I also really like what Stuart Vevers has done for Coach. The brand has really moved on and has a distinct new style.

– Ann Magritt, Senior Designer (Handbags)

My favourite designer brand would have to be Chloe. I love the mix of 70s glam with the feminine bohemian prints and textures. The iconic hardware and surface detail on the bags are always so beautifully crafted.

– Hannah Callaghan, Handbag Designer

Jessica Sharman, Designer (Angels) and Jasmine Broughton, Assistant Embellishment Designer

What advice would you give someone wanting to get into the fashion industry?

Be creative in as many ways as you can, even if it doesn’t relate to your career goals exactly. Learn, create and absorb as much as you can from your experiences and travels!

– Jessica Sharman, Designer (Angels)

Never stop learning. This industry is constantly changing, and you must keep up with the technology, innovations and trends.

– Valentina Wolfermann, Print Design Assistant

Which Accessorize SS19 collection are you most excited about?

I am most excited about the Amalfi collection. I absolutely love the fun and humour within the pieces. Working on the textile bags for this collection was very exciting, and I really love the fruit pieces we have within the range!

Jasmine Broughton, Assistant Embellishment Designer

The Fiesta collection has made me impatient for summer to arrive! The bright colours and the textures of weavings and embroideries are a great combination.

Valentina Wolfermann, Print Design Assistant

Georgie Chappell, Print Designer

&FINALLY Curate the Key Accessories of SS19

How to do SS19 like a fashion editor? Enter Florrie Thomas and Anna Vitiello, journalists and creators of &FINALLY,  the online platform that celebrates style, fashion and all things accessories. Here in an exclusive shoot for Accessorize, the stylist duo show us how they’ll be wearing the key accessories of SS19, and let us in on their tips and tricks for taking on the biggest trends of the new season. It’s time to style it your way…

How would you describe your personal sense of style?

Florrie: I would say mine is a mix of vintage and bohemian style made modern with minimal and contemporary pieces.  I love colour and print but prefer to blend them with clean lines and classic shapes.

Anna: I’m a little predictable in many ways: I love suiting, statement shoulders, animal prints and most importantly, I love to load on the accessories. I think my friends (Florrie included) would describe my style as being inspired by my Italian side mixed in with 80s elements – my Pinterest is full of runway and archive editorial from that era.

Tell us about the best accessory you own…

F:  This is so hard! It’s like choosing a favourite child! On the one hand, I want to say it’s my vintage floral beaded bag from the 70s, but then equally I might have to pick my Celine boots which seem to work with and add edge to everything.

A: That’s a tough one but possibly a vintage YSL bag that my mum got me for my 21st birthday. It’s not about the price tag or the brand, but rather finding something that you love year after year, no matter how your style changes.

What are your favourite pieces from our new-season collection?

F: First and foremost, it has got to be the amazing selection of hair slides! The range includes crystal-embellished styles to versatile resin designs. We also love your minimal take on bags. The clean lines and shapes mean they will fit seamlessly into your wardrobe and become hard-working accessories that go with everything and see you through summer.

A: The woven, macramé and raffia bags are so strong too. These will never date and will work perfectly with all your summer looks, whether you’re a lover of a floaty floral dress or a clean-lined linen suit.

Talk us through the bags you’ve chosen…

F: We’ve hand-picked a number of different styles that are all very versatile and easy to wear. The beaded bag is a must-buy. People will think its vintage and that’s just how to wear it, unexpectedly teamed with something modern and clean. Plus it’s the perfect size for your necessities too.

A: The belt bag has been around for a while now but is not something to be afraid of. We find adding one your beloved blazer can make you feel and look so much more polished. The style we’ve chosen is simple yet still adds something a little extra. For a chic way to wear it, team it with monochrome.

F: The bucket bag is a forever classic and we love the combination of natural linen and plastic: a classic with a modern twist. We both love wearing browns and tans so layering this bag with a camel coat, white jeans and a cashmere knit works for now and then come spring, we’ll team it a with cream linen dress.

How will you be wearing statement earrings this season?

A: We are lovers of gold jewellery and sometimes anything too bright can feel out of place if you’re not on a summer holiday. There’s something about resin, however, that feels easy to wear and mix in with your go to neutrals.

What are your top style tips for wearing hair clips?

A: Hair accessories are something that can seem a little scary until you try it and then trust us, you’ll become addicted and they’ll be your secret weapon for looking pulled together when you’ve simply thrown things on!

F: For hair slides, we suggest layering them up on one side of your hairline in a row of say three or four. If that seems too bold then start with one, pulling your hair loosely to the side. Another way to wear them is to pull back your hair into a loose low ponytail and clip with a simple larger slide. Start simple and see how you go.

Join us as we step inside our London studio with Zara Simon, designer of the exclusive Z for Accessorize jewellery collection. Plated with precious metals and set with sparkling embellishments, the empowering new range showcases powerful symbols with a story to tell. Here’s your exclusive first look…

The Inspiration

“The new limited-edition collection is inspired by influential women throughout history, including Joan of Arc, Cleopatra and superheroes such as Wonder Woman, as we felt this was a very relevant reference at this current time. Powerful symbols were also the force behind the range – they include shields for strength, snakes for wisdom and evil eyes that offer protection.” – Zara Simon.

The Collection

“We used a mix of beautifully-cast metals, semi-precious stones and crystals as the materials to give the range a luxe feel. The aim is to make the wearer feel both empowered and beautiful through her jewellery.” – Zara Simon.

Empowering Women: Lydia French from The Brighter Times

For the final chapter of our Empowering Women series, we’re meeting Lydia French, founder of The Brighter Times, a platform that spreads peace, love and positivity.  Here, she talks to us about all things female friendship, self-care strategies and her top feel-good picks from the new-season collection at Accessorize. It’s time to make room for happy…

Tell us more about The Brighter Times…

The Brighter Times is a platform for all things positive, kind and inspiring. Life always presents its challenges and hardships, so I wanted to create a space where people (including myself!) can go for a motivational quote, a titbit of wisdom, a laugh, some escapism even just for a few minutes. From the very beginning, I had a clear vision about it being full of inspiring stories and tales of human kindness.

It’s been a long and, at times, frustrating journey but through sheer persistence, the website is finally live, greetings cards have been created and people are sharing their good stories. Moral of the story: keep going!

The message that I want to spread with The Brighter Times is simple: we are all in this crazy world together and we need to be kind to ourselves and others.

What does Galentine’s Day mean to you?

I LOVE IT! I’ve been sending my besties Galentine’s Day cards for years – it’s a moment to pause and say thank you. I will always cherish my girlfriends because of their constant support, loyalty, generosity, and how much they still surprise me with their unconditional love. Galentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to celebrate and let them know how much they’re appreciated.

Tell us the best piece of advice that a friend has ever given you.

‘To be completely and unapologetically you’. It’s totally okay to not vibe with everyone – you just need a few good’uns to appreciate everything together. You may not be everyone’s cup of tea but you’re definitely someone’s tequila!

What are your top tips for staying positive?

Make sure you have enough giggle time with your friends – the side-splitting, jaw-ache kind! If anyone is going to pull you out of a funk it’s them. Music is a big one too – for an instant pick-me-up, whack on your favourite track and let it take you to your happy place. Having a scroll through positive, uplifting, motivational Instagram accounts can also be very helpful but honestly, do whatever works for you. My advice would be to keep checking in with yourself and ask ‘what can I do to make me happy today?’. The smallest thing can make the biggest difference.

What is your best self-care strategy?

I’m a big one for feeding’ the soul… literally. Happy tummy, happy mind. I love feeling healthy… with the odd jam-filled donut thrown in for good measure of course! Taking time for myself is really important, whether it’s having a bath, watching my favourite Netflix series or sitting on my bed staring at the ceiling, the occasional bit of quiet time makes all the difference. A big thing I’m working on this year is only saying ‘yes’ to things I really want to do, prioritising myself and being okay with that. It’s made SUCH a difference already. It means the decisions I do make, I throw myself into whole-heartedly. It makes me, and others around me a lot happier. Try it!

Tell us about the pieces you’ve chosen…

I was immediately drawn to the pieces because of their colour and fun. They’re brilliantly feel good, not only uplifting an outfit but your mood too. Statement pieces can also boost your confidence and set you up for the day – there’s absolutely nothing wrong with being full of fierce.
