4 New Occasion Bags for Summer Nights

Your moment has arrived. Dance under starry skies with the four new occasion bags for summer nights, as cool, contemporary silhouettes, refined prints and high-shine textures take to the floor – we’ll see you at dusk.

1. Pleats Please

Having made their mark on midis, jumpsuits and other wardrobe wonders, micro pleats have now moved onto accessories. Hitting a nostalgic note with a clip-frame design, this vintage-inspired clutch is artfully crafted with plisse pleats in olive-toned yellow and finished with a beaded loop handle for extra glamour. Wear yours under palmy shadows with tonal colours for an SS19-approved look.

2. Nocturnal Animals

As the lights go out, animal print comes out to play. Luxe leopard in a luxurious jacquard texture revamp the classic envelope clutch, lending it a sense of newness. Modern glamour comes in the form of the gold-tone metal detailing and chain strap, which also allow the maximalist motif to stay in full focus. An after-dark fashion hero.

3. Outside the Box

Covered with a shimmering jacquard fabrication, this top-handle box bag exudes the charm of a long-forgotten vintage treasure. The gold-tone metal frame and hinged fastening further accentuates the thrift-shop feel of this structured style, creating the perfect contrast to your summer evening get-up.

4. Shell Out

At first glance, seashells may not feel suited to summer invites – but this cool clutch proves otherwise. Inlaid with lustrous mother of pearls in a chevron pattern and edged in a sleek metal frame, this hard-case design turns the trend on its head. The perfect plus-one for every sun-soaked soiree.

Pride at Accessorize: Here’s to Being Your Authentic Self

Ahead of London Pride on 6th July, and in recognition of Pride Month, we’re celebrating with some super-inspiring people from our very own head office.  Join as we chat to Andy, Dan and Tim about inclusivity, diversity and what to means to be your true authentic self in our exclusive Q&A.

What does Pride mean to you?

Andy: Pride is being  proud of who you are and overcoming prejudice.

Dan: Pride is and was a protest – it didn’t start as a celebration but as a fight for the right to exist. There have been massive steps in the fight for equality but it’s still a fight that’s as relevant today as it was at the time of the Stonewall riots in ‘69.

Tim: The opportunity to celebrate who I am as a person with other people in the community in a happy, loving and safe environment without any fear of receiving any abuse or persecution.

How would you describe the authentic you?

Andy: Confident, strong and proud.

Dan: A little bit rebellious.

Tim: Sociable, ambitious and loving.

Is there any advice you would give to your younger self?

Andy: Enjoy life and be true to yourself. Let live.

Dan: Embrace your new brothers and sisters. They’ll become your best allies and some of your biggest supporters.

Tim: Be who you want to be and don’t worry about what other people think of you. If they don’t like you for who you are then you don’t need to concern yourself with them.

How do you normally celebrate Pride?

Andy: A few drinks with friends before we go to the event.

Dan: I always try to go to one Pride event every year with friends; we laugh, we dance and we take some time to celebrate all we’ve achieved. So far, I’ve done Manchester, London, and Brighton. Amsterdam would be fabulous and is on my to-do list!

Tim: I have celebrated Pride in many different ways. The first time I ever attended an event was in New York  where I watched the parade. Since then, I have attended three London Pride events, two of which I have marched in the actual parade. I also have attended Brighton Pride last year, watching the parade with my partner and friends. This year I’ll be going to London and Brighton Pride with more friends than ever before, attending the Brighton show where Kylie will be performing. We are making a real event of Brighton this year and are all going to go down there for the whole weekend.

What is your best ever memory from a Pride celebration?

Andy: A party in Brockwell Park with music tents, then a party afterwards in the evening in a 22-floor tower block being trapped in a lift with 20 drag queens for over an hour! You can imagine the hilarity when we all had to be saved by dashing firemen – their faces were a picture!

Dan: When I was 16, I marched in my first Pride parade as part of an LGBTQ+ youth group. Everything was so bright and vivid, it was like I’d stepped in to another world or a special member’s club. I think I felt more ‘me’ than I ever had.

Tim: Marching in the Parade was amazing but my favourite was probably last year in Brighton with my partner. We attended the event together and got a really great picture on Brighton Beach with me on his shoulders and both of us wearing our respective Pride flags.

Do you feel it’s important for businesses in general to promote diversity and inclusivity?

Andy: Definitely. We are all humans and all each have our own specialities that add to the business.

Dan: Definitely! Not only does everyone want to feel that they belong and have a voice, but to go a bit HR on the subject, businesses with high levels of diversity perform better on average than those that don’t.

Tim: Yes I do. We are very lucky here and in the industry in which we work where people are so inclusive and accepting by their nature but there are many industries where this is not the case. I think it’s really important to have all genders, sexual orientations and races to be seen in a positive light and celebrated for the ways in which they contribute to the world.

What changes would you like to see in the industry generally to promote diversity?

Andy: Let people be who they want to be without shame. It’s hard enough for some people already. Gay, straight or transgender, we are all humans.

Dan: I’d like to see more representation in positions of power – it’s no longer enough to just have Tim Cook (Apple’s CEO) waving the gay flag for business representation. We need more intersectionality, more diversity, more voices.

Tim: As amazing as it is that everyone gets behind the Pride celebrations during the summer, I think there needs to be more year-round recognition of the hard work these people do for the companies and industries.

What difference does it make, working for somewhere you can be your authentic self?

Andy: It’s so good not having to live two separate lives and not have to suppress who you are.

Dan: Every difference. If you enable someone to authentically be themselves then that person will undoubtedly champion the business back in return.

What would you like to see the business doing next in its promotion of inclusivity and authenticity?

Andy: I think that we should join in the Pride celebrations like other companies – it would be great if we could show our support as a business.

Dan: I would like to see more diversity of and work done with the wider LGBTQ+ spectrum – who are our lesbians/trans/gender non-binary customers? Where are they represented? How are we communicating to them?

AW19 Preview: 3 New Bag Trends for Next Season

We may be in the midst of SS19 – but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to set our sights on the new season. Join us as we decipher the three key bag trends for AW19 in our exclusive preview – here’s what we’ll be wearing now and next.

1. The Cross-Body Bags

The ultimate day-to-night heroes, cross-body bags are the one trend that will never our side. In AW19, look out for utility-inspired styles with striped straps or, for an intense hit of colour, try sports-luxe designs in bold primary tones.

2. The Quilted Bags

An iconic design detail favoured by various fashion houses, quilting is making a comeback – and in AW19, it’s going one step further. While leather and PU pieces still remain relevant, sports-luxe styling is also gaining momentum next season, with soft, padded textures taking on the classic trend – find it on everything from cross-body bags to backpacks.

3. The New Backpacks

From the daily grind to weekend adventures, backpacks are the bags to rely on when we need to go hands-free. As we head into next season, press refresh with down-sized styles in plush cord – we like how the golden yellow hue works for now too. For commuters, reflective designs in animal prints present the perfect fusion of fashion and functionality.

Best Friends Q&A with Amy Bell and Megan Ellaby

To celebrate strong female friendships, we asked fashion bloggers and real-life BFFs Amy Bell and Megan Ellaby to talk all things sisterhood and style in our exclusive Q&A. Here’s what they had to say…

Sum up your friendship in three words!

Amy: Lots of larrrfs!

Megan: Fun, colourful and adventurous.

What is your favourite memory together?

Amy: Oh my goodness, so many! We were in San Francisco last year and were in a taxi on our way to dinner when we drove past a venue that had a sign up to say the The Kooks were playing that evening – we had a manic ‘oh my God, shall we?’ chat, hopped out the taxi, ran over to the venue to buy some last-minute tickets and had one of the best, best nights together. Also going over the Golden Gate Bridge on an open top bus – I think I developed new abs because I was laughing so hard and have a fantastic photo of Megan looking like Jimmy Neutron that makes me chuckle every time I see it.

Megan: Exploring San Francisco together, we had the best time discovering a new city filled with tonnes of laughs, music and tired feet!

You both have a day off – how would you spend it together?

Amy: Ooh I reckon we’d start off with delicious brunch as we both love a good cafe, a wee photobooth (it’d be rude not to) and then meet the boys – they’ve also become good friends which is very romantic – for some drinks and food (my choice, I have so many allergies that nothing terrifies Meggy more than having to pick a restaurant!).

How would you describe each other’s style?

Amy: What I love about Megan’s style is that there’s not one other person out there you can compare it to. There are so many influences in there that mix together to make that definitive ‘Megan’ look. I’d say bold, colourful, playful and badass.

Megan: Amy has one of the best wardrobes I’ve ever seen. Her style is always a little bit different every day. I would say she’s a little more girlie than I am with her love for crop tops and floaty, longer-length skirts but we both have that sixties touch from time to time. I also don’t know anyone who can accesorise the way she does – she’s the queen of accessories!

If you could steal one piece from each other’s wardrobe what would you take?

Amy: Oh, one of those wonderful Chloe bags fo’ sho’!

Megan: Amy has the most amazing burgundy faux shearling coat that I am OBSESSED with. I’d deffo like to nab that this winter.

Tell us about the Accessorize pieces you’ve chosen and why…

Megan: Hair accessories and gold jewellery aplenty, both of which I can’t get enough of this season. Beaded bags are also huge so I had to select one or two of those pieces from the new Accessorize collection. I’ve also been lusting over knot bags so it’s awesome to see one on the high street and it’s so damn cute and tiny.

4 Beach Cover-Ups to Take You from Day to Night

It’s summer somewhere – and we’re more than ready to feel the sand on our toes and the sun on our skin. Whether you’re flying off somewhere far-flung, or looking forward to a staycation closer to home, we’ve got the best beach cover-ups to take you from day to night. Here are our top picks.

1. The Embroidered Playsuit

When it comes to finding that perfect beach cover-up, nothing beats a playsuit. Our long-sleeved embroidered playsuit is designed with playful pom-pom trims and boho tassels which tie up at the front. Vibrant pinks and cool greens make the pretty floral embroidery pop, while the lightweight material adds to its breezy finish. For warm summer days that turn into starlit nights, team yours with the Jenna macramé circle bag, the Moscow suede asymmetric sliders and the slinky shell earrings.

2. The Chambray Dress

Made for the beach, bar and everything in between, our chambray embroidered trapeze dress has a cool blue hue that’s perfect for summer. Throw it on over your bikini and a pair of flip-flops for a go-to beach ensemble, whether you’re dancing till dawn at a full moon party or just kicking back by the water. When it comes to the accessories, add a splash of coral with our Brooke pleated clutch bag, beaded wrap hoop earrings and the Ellen espadrille sliders.

3. The Maxi Dress

Made for breezy beach days and dreamy holiday nights, our white maxi dress is the latest holiday must-have. Crafted from the finest cotton, this sand-grazing has delicate lace details and a lightweight design that will keep you cool when the weather heats up. Accessorise with the skinny leopard-print scarf (perfect for keeping your hair up on sticky summer days), bringing a burst of brightness with the satin knot bag and the Lisbon suede sliders, both in coral.

4. The Kaftan

For a versatile addition to your suitcase selection, layer the Lottie lace-back kaftan over all your bikinis and swimsuits this summer.  Made from soft, breathable cotton, this piece is lightweight enough to throw on somewhere tropical but will help keep the sun off your skin if you need a break from soaking up those rays. As the sun goes down, style with a layered necklace in luxe gold, before keeping it natural with the leopard-print sandals and the Naomi wooden handheld bag for a laidback holiday feel.

Design Stories: The Jasmine Clutch Bag

Join us as we inside our design studio in Notting Hill, London, and explore the inspiration behind one of our most showstopping accessories of summer event season: the hand-embellished Jasmine clutch bag.

The Inspiration

“I wanted to incorporate the colours of the season to create a pretty and fresh embellishment that could be worn from day to night. I used a mix of beading and sequins to create a dual texture effect – designers such as Valentino and Peter Pilotto inspired the floral patterns and colours used.  As the baguette shoulder shape was so key for the season, it felt like a new modern approach for embellishment.” – Jasmine Broughton, Assistant Jewellery and Embellishment Designer.

Embellished by hand, our Jasmine clutch bag features glamorous floral decoration in the form of glistening beads and sequins in red, pink, aqua blue and gold. Perfect for summer event season, this occasion-ready style features a magnet fastening, inner zip pocket and chain strap.

3 Bag Trends for Festival Season

As we gear up for festival season, we’re planning our main stage-ready outfits in meticulous detail – and bags are next on our list. Be it a belted style or a cross-body classic, hands-free is the only way to go as we soak up the sounds of summer – here are three of the biggest bag trends to watch.

1. Bum Bags

Bum bags = the accessory that was made for festival season. From luxe leather styles to neon numbers that are straight out of the nineties, these belted designs are fashion’s favourite way to keep field-day essentials to hand. Wear them high on your waist or across the shoulder for carefree cool.

2. Cross-Body

*Bag (left) coming soon

Want something you know you’ll wear all season? Make it a cross-body bag. Perfect for your next festival as well as your everyday wardrobe, our hands-free favourites of SS19 come in every iteration that you can imagine, with pale pastels and bold brights thrown into the mix.

3. Neon

Blending into the background? Not an option for neon. Highlighter orange is one of the headlining hues of festival season, seen across retro bum bags and cool cross-body designs alike. Style yours against a blank canvas or go all-out with clashing colours, sequins and prints.

5 Headbands That We’re Obsessed With

Headbands have been reborn. Once associated with royalty, these ultra-chic hair accessories have had a strong presence on the recent runways (Prada, Miu Miu and Dior – we’re looking at you), with padded, embellished and sparkly styles all making the high-fashion cut. Since then, they’ve won over celebrities and street stylers alike, joining pearl-encrusted hair clips, slogan slides and printed scarves to become the latest trend taking over Instagram. Ready to get acquainted? Here are five headbands that we’re obsessed with right now.

Headbands: As Seen On

The celebrity seal of approval has been delivered. Headbands have been seen on the likes of celebrity stylist Marina Didovich who created a top-to-toe tonal look with her padded piece in soft lilac, as well as Pippa Middleton – we like how she’s proven the accessory’s royal relevance with a bold beauty in cornflower blue.

1. Blush Hour

Padded headbands have returned to the fashion forefront. A favourite of the style crowd, these puffed-up pieces feel decidedly regal, whether worn with distressed denim or a girlish gown. For something that refuses to blend into the background, go for romantic rose pink – wear yours with soft waves or a low pony.

2. Fade to Black

Prefer to keep it classic? Offering an easy into the headband trend, this plush pick is designed in classic black for low-low versatility, and can be worn day or night for an outfit-elevating effect.  Modernise it with a monochrome outfit or draw attention to its nostalgic disposition with polka dots or gingham prints.

3. Knot Today

Creating the illusion of a silky scarf, knotted designs are also a prominent part of the headband trend. Vintage styling comes into play with these pretty pieces, crafted in a subtly sparkly fabrication with plisse pleats for a modern twist. Keep it classically cool with an all-black number or opt for something softer with a rose-toned treasure.

4. Pearl Adorned

A new alternative to the pearl-encrusted slides that we know and love, embellished headbands are having a well-deserved moment in SS19. From black to barely-there blush, pearl-adorned picks are the ones we’re wearing to every summer diary date, from weekend brunches to sun-soaked weddings.

5. Make the Braid

Milkmaid styling is officially a thing this season, with square necklines, shirred details and puff sleeves making up the main talking points of the trend. Lucky for us, this ultra-feminine aesthetic has also translated onto hair accessories, as seen on our black plaited headband – the cool girl’s way to emulate the milkmaid braid.

Design Stories: Straw Hats

The sun’s got his hat on – and here at Accessorize, we’re ready to follow suit. In our latest Design Stories, we spoke to Minna Holland, Senior Designer, about the inspiration behind our summer straw hats, crafted with care from natural textures and eclectically embellished for that signature touch. Here’s what we found out…

The Inspiration

“The inspiration came from the bounty of embellishments, trims and components that our team collection on their travels. We have been loving the explosion in interest in arts and crafts at the moment, and the way this has been reflected in recent catwalk shows. We wanted to incorporate this rich mix of colour and texture into our range of SS19 hats.”

“The key conversations of SS19 are all around escapism, travel and adventure. We tried to reflect this mood with the wonderful patterns, fringed-edge raffia trims and pom-poms that we chose – perfect for injecting a dose of bohemian glamour into your wardrobe.”
