Fashion Month: 5 Accessory Trends to Watch in SS19

Fashion month: it came, it saw, and it left us anticipating the return of those hazy summer days. Need a quick run-down of the key catwalk highlights? From statement hats to the new wave of structured bags, here are the five accessory trends to watch in SS19…

1. Hair Scarves

Hair scarves had a strong presence on the New York runways, borrowing their prints from retro designs and reimagining them in modern ways. Kate Spade (left) added pops of fuschia pink and black to classic scarves and knotted neckerchiefs, while Anna Sui turned turbans on their head with luxe jacquard textures in spring-ready shades of coral and gold.

2. Flip-Flops

Forget everything you knew about flip-flops. An emerging trend from the SS19 shows, the simple summer classic is making its move from the poolside to the city streets, and offsetting its inherently casual feel with dressed-up outfits. Take note of how Tibi’s (left) teamed an androgynous checked suit with a flat black pair, and the chunkier styles seen at Jil Sander (right), styled with crocheted maxis.

3. Box Bags

All hail the ‘it’ bag of SS19. Drawing their inspiration from doctor-like designs, this season’s iterations took structure to the extreme with cuboid shapes and sharp, angular lines – and here lies the proof. Flat, boxy bags in mock-croc textures were spotted at Rejina Pyo in London (left), worn with leopard print for a statement clash, while Milan saw the revival of monochrome with two-tone styles at Jil Sander (right).

4. Statement Hats

Tying in with the travel theme of the new-season collection, statement hats were one of the most prominent accessory trends on the catwalks. Bright beanies at Calvin Klein (left) were on-hand to bridge the gap between winter and the first days of spring, while the floppy hats at Rejina Pyo (right) refreshed resort dressing with polka dot-prints and oversized shapes.

5. Western Fringing

The wild, wild west made its triumphant return to the runways but this time, the focus fell on softer, more feminine shapes instead of the practical outerwear pieces and denim designs usually associated with the classic trend.  From Coach (left) to Longchamp (right), the all-American aesthetic manifested itself through fringed leather jackets worn over prairie-style dresses, and tasselled gladiator sandals that were made with spring in mind.

The October Edit: Your First Look at the New Arrivals

Hello, October. Now that autumn has well and truly arrived, our attention has been drawn to the new-season accessories that promise a smooth, stylish transition into the colder months of the year. From sought-after scarves to the ‘it’ bags of AW18, here’s your first look at this month’s latest arrivals

1. Cold-Weather Cool

The breeze picks up as we enter the month of October, making it the perfect time to indulge in the cold-weather classics of AW18. This season, take note of blanket scarves in super-soft textures, opting for bold, bright shades that’ll lift the look of your winter coat with little effort. And as for the hats? While baker-boy caps and berets continue to be the clear favourites of the London street style set, pom-pom beanies are still retaining their style relevance.

The Winter Shop >

2. Jewel Tones

As the cold weather takes hold, so too does our natural affinity towards rich jewel tones. From deep emeralds to opulent amethysts, gemstone palettes create a more decadent feel which bodes well with the darker disposition of the new season.  Find them on luxe leather bags and cross-body designs to wear around the clock, and take your pick from plain, printed and cool colour-block styles.

3. Check Out

Much like animal print, checks are also dominating our new-season wardrobes. Although traditional tartans are not to be forgotten, AW18’s answer to the runway favourite comes in the shape of oversized checks in brighter colour combinations, making for a far more eclectic look. Want an easy way into the trend? A statement winter scarf provides the perfect introduction.

4. Hand-Painted Florals

Introducing the floral print that refuses to follow the crowd. Hand-painted by our team of talented in-house designers, October’s bold blooms combine petal-soft pinks with dark, leafy backdrops, creating styles that feel perfectly apt for autumn and winter. Watch them flourish on neckerchiefs, new-season bags and essential travel accessories.

Style Series: Helina Mar Curates AW18

Introducing Style Series. Over the course of the next month, we’ll be inviting some of our favourite influencers to curate a hand-picked edit of their new season must-haves – and Helina Mar is first in line. From AW18’s key trends to style hacks, here’s what the fashion blogger and content creator had to say…

How would you describe your usual style?

It can be quite eclectic and I like to mix it up – think sporty, smart, boho or even grunge. Either way, I like to keep it casual, practical and comfortable. I hate being too cold or wearing uncomfortable shoe so I tend to keep my outfits simple and classic, and let my accessories do all the work.

What are your favourite pieces from the shoot and why?

All of the jewellery pieces are gorgeous. They look lovely layered together.

Layering jewellery is a great way to create an individual look – what is your favourite way to wear the trend?

I like layering dainty, delicate pieces together, whether that’s stacking fine rings or necklaces. They can really change up your whole look.

What are your top tips for wearing animal print?

Let the print be the main feature of your outfit. Or, if you’re feeling brave, wear it with a bright, contrasting colour.

Who is your celebrity style muse and why?

I wouldn’t say I have one particular celebrity style muse. I much prefer going online or looking at street style for inspiration.

What’s your ultimate style hack?

Wearing headbands and Alice bands. Having a fringe can be a blessing when you’ve forgotten to do your brows but bad hair days are a no-no. Hairbands always save me when my fringe doesn’t co-operate and they also make a strong statement if you experiment with different colours and prints.

What to Spend Your Student Discount On

Proud owner of a 20% off student discount code, courtesy of UNiDAYS? From fashion favourites to those all-important essentials, find exactly what you’re looking for as you enter the new term with our run-down of the best buys of AW18. Here’s what to spend your student discount on…

1. Baker Boy Hats

As seen on the capital’s streets for London Fashion Week, baker boy hats are back in a big way for AW18. Taking you from campus to catch-ups over coffee, this season’s key buys come in classic black, powdery pastels and heritage checks, and, in turn, offer a myriad of simple yet effective styling options. Wear with everything from oversized aviator jackets to slouchy knits and boyfriend jeans.

2. New-Season Bags

Need a bag for the new term? From sleek city backpacks in butter-soft suede to bucket bags and oversized totes in statement shades and prints, these new-season styles will slot seamlessly into your wardrobe, rather than being solely limited to lecture halls. We like how each one features thoughtful design details – think sturdy structures and adjustable straps.

3. Resin Earrings

Resin earrings are continuing to make their mark on AW18, combining cool colourways and sculptural shapes for something that feels fashion-forward and directional. Take your pick from long-drop designs in tortoiseshell textures, marbled finishes and glossy golds, and wear them to elevate your look with minimum effort.

4. Blanket Scarves

As the cold weather sets in, oversized blanket scarves are an essential investment for AW18 – and especially if you’re looking to refresh last year’s winter coat. Bold brights and luxe leopard prints are the way to go for statement-making style, while heritage checks in classic colour palettes are on-hand to provide more subtle updates.

5. Student Essentials

Covered off most of your fashion wish-list? It’s time to turn to the essentials. Think pyjamas, slippers and toiletry bags for halls and rented homes, and other student basics such as stationery and reusable water bottles for those hours spent studying.

1. Leopard Print

In case there was any doubt in your mind over this season’s biggest trend then let the street stylers at London Fashion Week set the record straight: leopard print is well and truly it. From wrap-round midi dresses in fiery scarlet shades to animal-inspired accessories, the wild motif made its mark on the capital’s streets like no other.

2. Statement Earrings

Statement earrings have reiterated their relevance once again, with sculptural shapes, sequinned styles and oversized hoops making up the most-coveted adornments of the moment. Glossy gold metals and inky resin textures were the clear favourites of the fashion crowd, evoking a darker mood for the season that lies ahead.

3. Stand-Out Sunglasses

Sunglasses aren’t solely for summer. Show-goers styled cat-eye pairs, square frames and oversized designs with the wardrobe heroes of AW18, from chunky knits to androgynous suits in rusty palettes. Eyewear also moved beyond the basics with tinted lenses and thick frames in contrast colours, transforming the warm-weather essential into an all-season statement-maker.

4. Berets & Baker Boy Hats

From baker boy caps to berets, hats have had a seasonal resurgence for AW18. The symbol of classic French girl cool, berets were favoured by pavement-pounders in ever-versatile tan and black iterations, worn with boxy blazers in floral prints and heritage checks. Baker boy caps also made their long-awaited comeback, with everything from classic black styles to mustard yellow designs vying for your attention.

3 New Accessory Trends for AW18

London Fashion Week: What the Bloggers Wore

And with that, London Fashion is over for another season. Between the runway shows, events and after-parties, we took to the city streets with three of our favourite influencers – Georgia India, Juliette Foxx and Laura Byrnes – to find out more about their personal style and hear about their most-coveted buys for AW18. This is what they had to say…

Georgia India

Tell us about the Accessorize pieces you’re wearing…

For the first day of London Fashion Week, I opted for a minimal outfit, wearing a beige blazer with an oversized black tee and cycling shorts –the perfect blank canvas to showcase some exciting accessories. I styled it up with statement beaded earrings with sequins and a stunning embellished bag with a ring handle and tassels. I also added delicate stack rings for something a little more understated.

Which trends are you most excited about for AW18 and why?

Everything and anything animal print. Incorporating it into your look is so much fun. I’m also loving oversized blazers – I think they’re really classy.

What are the three signature fashion pieces that you can’t live without?

A classic black bag, statement earrings and layered necklaces.

If you could trade wardrobes with one person, who would it be and why?

The Scandinavian influencer, Josefine Husskie. I adore everything thing she wears – it’s so classic and timeless.

If you could go back in time, what fashion era would you love to live in and why?

I would love to go back to the seventies. I adore flared trousers and loved they way they would blow dry their hair. I feel like the disco scene would have been so much fun too.

Juliette Foxx

Tell about the Accessorize pieces you’re wearing…

I have a thing for clashing animal prints. They might not get along in the wild but they go so well together in fashion. I’m wearing this animal-print cross-body bag and belt to disrupt my look a little and elevate it from a fashionable look to a stylish look – give it a little more personality, you know? Also, who can say no to a cinched-in waist?

Which trends are you most excited about for AW18 and why?

There’s been a massive animal print revival and I’m here for it but also, neon. I want it all!

What are the three signature fashion pieces that you can’t live without?

Sunglasses, sunglasses and sunglasses. I never leave my house without a pair. For me, they make the outfit. I also enjoy people’s stares as I walk down the streets in the winter wearing them. They think I’m crazy. I also love a good watch and stylishly stacked jewellery.

If you could trade wardrobes with one person, who would it be and why?

Anna Dello Russo. She’s the ultimate street style queen and I’ll probably morph into her when I grow up

If you could go back in time, what fashion era would you love to live in and why?

I really love the individuality of nineties dressing. The style was a lot more expressive back and definitely more fun.

Laura Byrnes

Tell us about the Accessorize pieces you’re wearing…

I’m wearing the wicker bag and lots of gold accessories. I love all of the neutral tones and the bag works so perfectly with the pared-back palette. The gold jewellery completely finishes off the look. The Z for Accessorize collection is so gorgeous.

Which trends are you most excited about for AW18 and why?

As I’ve mentioned, neutral tones are my absolute favourite at the moment! They’re so easy to wear, and you can mix and match really easily. Animal print is another trend that I’m obsessed with right now – they add so much style to any outfit.

What are the three signature fashion pieces that you can’t live without?

A statement bag, layered gold necklaces and a scarf for those bad hair days!

If you could trade wardrobes with one person, who would it be and why?

Aylin Koenig – her look is so effortlessly cool and I love the way she styles every outfit.

If you could go back in time, what fashion era would you love to live in and why?

I think it would have to be the sixties. The style was amazing and luckily, mini A-line skirts and turtlenecks are a winning combination for this season too.

5 New-In Earrings Loved by Buyers & Bloggers

Loved by us, loved by them. Seek inspiration for your new-season jewellery edit with five new-in earrings approved by bloggers and Accessorize buyers…

1. Muted Mustard

Mustard is having a moment right now, with the modern, muted tone of yellow seen across this season’s key accessories. We love how fashion blogger Yatri is taking on the trend with shoulder-grazing tassels, updated for the arrival of AW18 with enamel and tortoiseshell textures. Show yours off with a messy ponytail.

2. Cosmic Constellations

Want to create the perfect curated ear? Inspired by the night skies, tiny, twinkling constellations in gold-tone metals are proving to be a firm favourite on our Instagram feeds.  Clash yours with statement pieces like blogger Amelia Taylor or wear them solo – as seen on one of our junior buyers, Luisa.

3. Bold Sculptures

Retro has been revived for AW18 and the coolest way to interpret the trend is through architectural acrylics, as seen on blogger Bex. Pops of orange – another key colour for the season ahead – are unexpectedly paired with berry and gold, creating a statement-making look that nods to nostalgia.

4. New Geometrics

Geometric shapes have moved beyond simple, Scandi silhouettes, with the seventies now serving as the trend’s main style influence. Crafted in chunky oblong shapes, this sleek resin pair are detailed with marbled discs for a cool contrast – we like how they work equally as well with buyer MJ’s swept-back hair, as they do with blogger Holly’s high pony.

5. Retro Gold

Out with the old? Not quite yet. Taking their design direction from retro shapes, and updating their aesthetic with glossy golds and soft, curved lines, this statement-making pair feel fresh for the new season. Wear yours to elevate pared-back looks like junior buyer Laura.

4 Essential Earring Trends to Suit Your Style Persona

If the new season has taught us anything so far, it’s that self-expression more than matters.  From the statement to the understated, we decipher the earrings you need to suit your style persona…

1. Muted and Minimal

If your approach to fashion is more minimalist than maximalist then these pairs are your AW18 must-haves. For a modern take on the less-is-more aesthetic, consider oversized, sculptural styles, pared back with sleek tortoiseshell textures. Need something for everyday wear? Give barely-there hoops a break and turn to weightier wonders that feel like a long-forgotten vintage find.

2. Retro Shapes

In love with all things retro? Revive the trend for the new season with architectural acrylics in clashing colour palettes of burgundy, blush and marbled gold, creating a bold look from day to dark. For something a little more understated, high-gloss gold drops in sleek discs are here to mix the old with the new.

3. Bold Brights

Maximalists, rejoice – bold brights are reigning supreme for the new season. Make a strong statement with multiple tassels in striking scarlet, co-ordinating it with tonal pieces or creating a clash with soft pink. Want to take the trend to your everyday wardrobe? Opt for sculptural hoop earrings with colour-pop beads.

4. Boho Textures

How to bring bohemian styling into the new season? Capture the mellow mood of the seventies with sweeping tassels in muted mustard, made all the more modern with glossy resin details. For those who want to make a more subtle stand, look out for hammered hoops in glamourous gold metals.

The Curated Ear: How to Style Multiple Piercings

Ready to master the art of adornment? From delicately-designed hoops and jackets to studs with light-catching sparkles, we’re here to show how to style multiple piercings and re-create the Instagram trend that everyone’s talking about: the curated ear.

1. Hoops & Jackets

.

Inspired by star clusters and cosmic constellations, this season’s hoops and jackets are all about the ethereal. Mirror the mood of the night skies with small, dainty pieces plated in gold, and set with semi-precious stones and tiny, twinkling cubic zirconia gems. Want to elevate the look even further? Mix and match with luxe rose gold and platinum picks for something that feels completely effortless.

2. Silver Tones

Don’t want things to feel too overcrowded? Stick to sleek silver metals in understated styles – think barely-there hoops in down-sized designs, small-scale studs and symbolic icons, and ear jackets with subtle sparkles. The less-is-more rule applies here: pick out two or three of your favourite pieces to wear only on your lobes and cartilage piercings.

3. Studs

Having shaken off their grungy connotations, multiple studs are easiest way to embrace the curated ear trend. From modern geometric shapes to celestial styles that shimmer and shine, these fashion favourites are perfect for wearing across your lobes. Punctuate the look with mini hoops and ear crawlers to save it from looking too ‘done’.

The Premium Earrings You Can Always Rely On

Showcasing beautiful plated metals, sterling silver styles and sparkling crystals from SWAROVSKI®, our exclusively-designed earrings are here to elevate the every day. Need to know more? Here are the premium pieces you can always rely on…

Z for Accessorize

Ceeated by Zara Simon, our Z for Accessorize collection is filled with gold-, rose gold- and platinum-plated pieces, from statement-making styles to minimalist must-haves. But what exactly does ‘plating’ mean? In short, it’s the process of bonding a very thin layer of gold (or platinum) over another metal, giving it a luxe, high-gloss shine, while adding to its durability. This gives it the look of solid gold while eliminating the metal’s natural softness and weakness, resulting in precious pieces that were made to be worn for years to come.

Shop Z for Accessorize >

Sterling Silver

Barely-there hoops, dainty pieces and long-drop designs: when it comes to earrings, sterling silver is the one for long-lasting style. It’s made from 92.5% pure silver (reflected in the 925 hallmark) and mixed with copper alloys to add strength and durability to the otherwise soft metal, making it less easily marred, damaged or bent.  Plus, unlike jewellery that’s made with nickel, brass or other materials, sterling silver doesn’t contain any metal additions that can cause an allergic reaction, meaning it’s the perfect choice for sensitive skin.

Crystals from Swarovski

Set in sterling silver, or plated with gold or rose gold, these perfect pairs are all about the sparkle – and it’s all thanks to the embellishment. Each one is adorned with light-catching crystals from SWAROVSKI®, crafted from quartz, sand and minerals (the exact proportions remain a closely-guarded secret) and precision-cut for a multi-faceted finish. From studs and hoops to dazzling drops, we think these glistening styles are the ones to wear from day to dark.

3 New Accessory Trends for AW18

We don’t mean to push summer out the door, but with the wave of newness flocking to our wardrobes we’re feeling more ready for the new season than ever. As style updates go, our three new accessory trends for AW18 give the quickest injection of fashion’s new mood. Is your future orange or somewhere in the animal kingdom? These must-haves know the answer.

1. Modern Retro

The retro starlet is rethought for AW18 with a modern take on her iconic accessories. Cat-eye sunglasses are clear winners in a transparent frame (with a touch of tortoiseshell raising the trend stakes) and circle bags have the feel of cool-girl classics in new, blown-up proportions. A set of hoops is all you need to round off the Hollywood look, and if you’re over the sleek metal pairs of season’s past then our resin earrings will surely reignite the spark.

2. Burnt Orange

We’re finding it hard to let go of summer’s brights, which is why we’re falling in love with burnt orange as the seasons change. Warm and autumnal but still with a kick on the colour chart, this spicy hue is perfect on handbags for a look that’s way more versatile than you’d think. Try a block-colour scarf when the temperatures dip or add statement power to your jewellery box with orange tassel earrings.

3. Animal Print

Answer the call of the wild with a helping of the season’s most sough-after print: leopard. This trend lends itself so well to the accessories, adding just a pop of attitude whenever you need it. Get major wear out of a silky, lightweight scarf – tie it into your hair for an on-trend outfit detail or team it with your go-to tote – or else choose printed arm candy with animal magnetism.
