5 Royal Wedding Party Ideas

The Royal wedding is nearly here and we cannot wait. We’ve booked the 19th off (still crying that we don’t get an extra bank holiday) and there’s a 100% chance we’ll be throwing a party to celebrate. Meghan and Harry are basically the most relatable royals out there so we’re totally rooting for them. Got a case of Royal wedding fever too? Send out the invites and let’s get party planning…

1. Throw a Street Party

There’s something about a Royal wedding that gets us feeling super-nostalgic so throw it right back to the 50s and host a street party. Grab your pals and  neighbours, a few tables and a whole lot of bunting to get things rolling. It’s an amazing way to bring everyone together, plus it takes loads of stress out of the party planning process because everyone’s there to chip in with food and drink.

2. Host Afternoon Tea

We literally never need an excuse for cake, but a Royal wedding is a pretty good reason anyway. Afternoon tea is about as British as it gets – and super sophisticated – so it’s the perfect way to celebrate a brand new royal power couple. Bag a vintage tea set, stock up on scones and Victoria sponge and make it elegant with some floral cushions.

3. Have a Viewing Party

Anyone else already been watching back-to-back episodes of Suits just to keep them going until the big day? We’re definitely not alone and there’s no way we’re missing the real-life Meghan Markle story, so gather around the biggest screen available and host a viewing party. Make it official with invites and a wedding-themed dress code.

4. Channel a Red, White and Blue Theme

If you want to channel your appreciation in a totally fashion-appropriate way, give your party  a red, white and blue theme. All three colours are key for SS18, so mix and match or work a directional look and go monotone from head to toe.

5. Host Your Own Reception

Didn’t get an invite to the after party? (Us neither). Throw your own instead! We’re thinking throwing on your best dress and accessories, sipping on champagne and sending your guests off with Royal wedding-themed party favours.

Coachella 2018: 5 Festival Trends with Main-Stage Status

The one word on everyone’s lips = Coachella. Giving us serious FOMO with that Beyoncé performance (AKA the headline act of the actual century), the festival’s first weekend also served up more street style inspo than we could handle, making us mega excited for the summer ahead. Need a fashion break-down? From bumbags to bandos, here are the five festival trends with main-stage status, as seen at Coachella 2018.

1. The Bumbags

Shop Bumbags >

Having raved about bumbags since the start of the season, we’re pleased to report that the throwback trend of SS18 has now made its way onto the festival circuit – as demonstrated by these main-stage movers. Belted designs in all-black everything proved to be the popular choice for the Coachella crowd, while mermaid sequins and metallics also made waves during the so-fire weekend.

2. The Face Jewels

Shop Face Jewels >

Move over, make-up – face jewels have officially taken over festival season. Stick-on sparkles and glitter-dusted skin was the clear favourite at Coachella 2018, making field-day ‘fits feel all the more magical. Wanna go even extra? Tap tips from one festival-goer and rock ‘em your bod with a bikini top.

3. The Cat-Eye Sunglasses

Shop Sunglasses >

Once the go-to fave of old-school Hollywood starlets, cat-eye sunglasses have had a modern makeover for SS18 – and these Coachella babes were all over them. But forget going for all-out glam ‘cause this season’s specs are taking a turn for the futuristic – think exaggerated angles, oversized shapes and mirrored lenses.

4. The Bandos

Shop Hair Accessories >

Great for fixing up your festival ‘do as well as disguising dry-shampooed roots, bandos were big news at Coachella 2018. Retro prints and florals brought all the vintage vibes to campsite get-ups, while tropical palms made the it-accessory feel much more now.

5. The Statement Earrings

Shop Earrings >

Statement earrings = the trend that we can’t get enough of. From punchy pom-poms and tiered tassels to supersized Scandi shapes, shoulder-grazing styles lit up the lobes of the festival fash pack, showing us that they’re staying put for the summer ahead.

8 Biggest Music Festivals in Summer 2018

Glastonbury might be MIA in 2018 but that doesn’t mean we’re going to be packing away our wellies. A summer without a festival? No thanks. Sure, Glasto is a big one, but no worries because there are tonnes of other festivals happening with all-star lineups. Grab your tent (and maybe a rain jacket… and your wellies) and live it up at the eight biggest music festivals in summer 2018.

Parklife

9 – 10 June, Heaton Park, Manchester

A post shared by Parklife (@parklife_festival) on

Not a tent kind of gal? Parklife might be your jam. The no-camping site and killer line up is perfect if you’re after a one-day wonder. Grab your tickets to see The XX, Liam Gallagher, Lorde, A$AP Rocky, Skepta, Bonobo and so many other amazing acts that we’d need a whole book to list them.

Isle of Wight

21 – 24 June, Seaclose Park, Isle of Wight

Officially one of the sunniest places in the UK (so pack your sunnies!), Isle of Wight Festival is the closest you’ll get to holiday vibes without needing your passport. You know it’s a good one when it’s celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, so jump on the ferry to catch Kasabian, Rita Ora, Blossoms and The Killers.

Latitude

12 – 15 July, Henham Park, Suffolk

Wanna go lake swimming, catch a live podcast and then go and watch the IRL queen that is Solange? Better book your tickets to Latitude. The Killers, Alt-J, Rag’n’Bone Man and Jessie Ware are all on the line up too. Plus there are some seriously amazing glamping options. No wonder it won a ‘best festival’ award last year!

Love Box

13 – 14 July, Gunnersbury Park, London

The master at work @djezofficial 🔥🔥🔥 #Lovebox17 📸 @giloscope

A post shared by Lovebox Festival (@loveboxfestival) on

Lovebox might just have the coolest line up out there. We’re talking Childish Gambino (aka Donald Glover aka our current Hollywood bae), Skepta, SZA, N.E.R.D and Wu-Tang Clan. And if that’s not enough, you can head to the Chapel of Love(box) or Disco Golf for endless insta opportunities.

Bestival

2 – 5 Aug, Lulworth Estate, Dorset

A post shared by Bestival (@bestival) on

Bestival is also known as the most colourful show on earth and we’re here for it. If our festival Pinterest board came to life, it would basically be Bestival. The fancy dress themes always pave the way for out-of-this-world style and there’s the world’s biggest disco ball, the world’s biggest confetti canon and rainbow astronauts. Anything else? Oh, just M.I.A., Grace Jones, London Grammar, Chaka Khan and Django Django…

RiZE Festival

17 – 18 Aug, Hylands Park, Chelmsford

A post shared by Rize Festival (@rizefestival) on

If you’re looking for a fresh festival to hit this summer, check our RiZE. 2018 is the festival’s debut but it’s already bagged Liam Gallagher, James Bay, Bastille and Years and Years. We’re tapping this as one to watch.

Leeds & Reading

24-26 Aug, Bramham Park, Leeds/ Richfield Avenue, Reading

One giant festival, two locations. Leeds and Reading festival is one of the biggest ones out there, so you’re guaranteed to see music’s biggest and brightest. Head to one of the seven (yep, seven) stages to see Kendrick Lamar, Kings of Leon, Dua Lipa, and Panic! At The Disco.

Festival No 6

6 – 9 September, Portmeirion, Wales

Summer’s not over ‘til you say it is, so keep the festival vibes flowing right through to September at Festival No 6. Held in Portmeirion – which is a pastel toned, Instagrammer’s dream – this festival can be whatever you want it to be. Chill out at the luxury spa, drink in the magic at the Saturday Night Spectacle or get hyped for all of the amazing musicians and bands, from Friendly Fires and Everything Everything to Hurts and Erol Alkan.

5 Reasons to Obsess Over Gen Z Yellow

From the moment Beyoncé swung her baseball bat around in THAT canary dress of dreams, Gen Z yellow has been slowly leaking into our wardrobes and filling our Insta feeds. Whether you’re all about the trend already or need some inspo (we got you), our five reasons to obsess over Generation Z yellow will show you why all shades of mustard and marigold deserve their time in the sun. Goodbye millennial pink – it’s not you, it’s us.

1. A Fresh Coat

When a trend is this easy to style, you can’t stop us from jumping on the hype. A yellow coat layers so effortlessly over an all-black palette, and is a dreamy match for leopard print details and a need-now military cap.

2. Low-Key Lemon

Get to grips with Generation Z yellow by using your accessories for a small dose of sunshine. We’re loving a popping clutch bag this season– just enough to shake up your everyday ‘fits without trying too hard.

3. Matchy Mustard

Muted-out shades of mustard are the easiest way to rock the trend if neutrals are your thing. This street-styler smashes the look with a matchy-matchy outfit that she breaks up with classic black accessories. We’re hooked.

4. All Gold

Who wants mellow yellow when you can go all-out on marigold? Every top-to-toe yellow look needs a matching piece of arm candy, and this mega-bright combo looks fresh-as with a pair of cool shades.

5. The Clash

We know it sounds wrong, but this trend-setter proves that Generation Z yellow and SS18 pastels are SO right together. Create the ultimate clash-up with sorbet-yellow, zingy orange and sugary lilac – the boxy mini bag gets our vote.

5 Ways to Wear the Rainbow Trend

Step away from the monochrome – SS18 is calling for a full spectrum of colour, with fire-engine reds, canary yellows and primary blues making up the some of the season’s paintbox brights. Want a way in? From made-you-stare bags to statement earrings, here are five ways to wear the rainbow trend now and all summer long.

1. The Day Bags

If you’re not one to do anything by halves (new season trends included), then make statement-making bags your ultimate style sidekick. Bright, bold and big enough for all your stuff, these full-colour cuties are here to nail rainbow styling for work *and* play. Win-win.

2. The Colour-Pop Earrings

Blink and you’ll miss it – colour-pop earrings are the lazy girl’s way to do rainbow brights. Pom-poms, mini tassels and swishy beads come in eye-popping colours for SS18, letting us give our messy low pony days (every day, tbh) a dose of zero-effort cool.

3. The Statement Tassels

Tassel earrings + rainbow shades = more extra than we can handle. From fan-style faves to shoulder-grazing designs, primary-coloured pairs are here to add so-fancy feels to all of our get-ups – we’ll be wearing ours from brunch to big night out.

4. The Bold Accessories

Not ready to go all-out rainbow? No biggie – ease yourself into the trend with the add-on accessories that’ll give your ‘fits a burst of brightness without running the risk of being OTT. Think between-season scarves in rainbow shades, colour-pop jewels and mini yet mega extras, from bold belts to haute headbands.

5. The Cross-Body Bags

Cross-body bags are our go-to accessory for, like, every situation ever so it’s only right that they get a slice of the rainbow action too. Down-sized designs in super-charged shades give #OOTDS an instant boost while colour-block beauts provide something a little less in-your-face for wardrobes on the more subtle side of things.

How to Wear Bumbags

The street stylers have spoken: the bumbag is officially back for SS18, ready to give our ‘drobes a serious dose of ‘90s nostalgia mixed with a side of so-now cool. But remember this – these belt-up babes aren’t here to third-wheel your ‘fits, having become statement-making accessories in their own right. So buckle up – here’s how to wear bumbags for the new season.

1. Black Out

Need to ease your way into the trend? We hear you. Making a case for military in a cool khaki jumpsuit, this NYFW show-goer kept it simple (yet effective) with a low-slung bumbag in basic black – and we were majorly into it. A black polo neck and studded boots added extra co-ordination, allowing the ‘90s accessory to blend in with her get-up.

2. High-Shine Pink

Wallflowers, look away now. Giving high-shine pink the go-ahead, this fash fan went turbo with a neon number (plus matching socks) that brought extra wows to her all-grey ‘fit. Copy her vibe with a sequinned style in hot pink hues, with flashes of green and blue for a hit of mermaid magic.

3. Pastel Pop

Bumbags = the new way to wear pastels for SS18. Follow this mega-babe’s style cue with a cosy white knit and a colour-pop midi, belted together with a powder blue number that feels so fresh for now. One pair of statement earrings later, and the new season is all yours.

4. Heavy Metal

Wanna make the bumbag feel instantly high-fashion? Go for metallics. Topping the style charts in a softly-tailored combo (that trench coat though), this fash packer knows that a high-shine hun is the only way to pull her look together for SS18. Add a messy top-knot for Insta-worthy feels.

5. Red Alert

Red is still one of all-time favourite colour crushes, and the good news is that the bold fiery hue has now set its sights on the it-accessory of the season: aka the bumbag. Take note from this street styler who rocked hers with a cool-as slogan knit tucked into an out-there pleated midi skirt, and accessorised to the max with swish studded shades.

8 Iconic Mother-Daughter Relationships

In celebration of Mother’s Day (it’s this weekend – just a heads-up, guys), we’ve taken a look back at some of the most iconic mother-daughter relationships from the screen, guaranteed to give you all the warm and fuzzy feels. So grab your number one hun, mark your spot on the sofa and fire up these feel-good films and TV box-sets that make for perfect Sunday viewing. Popcorn (and tissues) at the ready…

1. Matilda Wormwood and Miss Honey

From the moment they met at Crunchem Hall, Matilda and Miss Honey formed an instant friendship – despite the fact they had the Trunbull breathing down their necks. But after driving the wicked headmistress out of town (see ya, babes) and waving off her unloving fam, Matilda was finally adopted by her class teacher, meaning – Danny DeVito voice – both of them got what they finally wanted: a loving family. Cue all the happy tears.

2. Regina George and Mrs George

In case you’ve been living under a rock, Mrs George isn’t like a regular mum, she’s a cool mum *wink*. And whilst her antics in Mean Girls get a few eye-rolls from Regina, there’s no denying that this pink tracksuit-clad, mocktail-serving mama was majorly supportive of her daughter, whether she was cheering her on in the Winter Talent Show or making her neck brace look all fancy for the Spring Fling. You go, Glen Coco.

3. Anna and Tess Coleman

Like many teenagers, Anna in Freaky Friday had her fair share of dramz with her mum, Tess. They didn’t seem to really get each other between all the fights and door-slamming – well, until a cheeky little switch-a-roo via a couple of magic fortune cookies, that is. Once makeovers, romantic matters and chat show shenanigans had been put to one side, this mother-daughter duo finally got to see the world through the other’s eyes, making them closer than ever before. Uh, you guys.

4. Aibleen Clark and Mae Mobley Leefolt

“You is kind, you is smart, you is important” – these were the words spoken by Aibleen Clark, the maid hired to take care of two-year-old Mae Mobley Leefolt in The Help. Through her wonderful stories, games and never-ending wisdom, Aibleen taught the tiny tot about love, kindness and equality, and gave her a serious sense of self-worth. What a woman.

5. Rory and Lorelai Gilmore

If the Gilmore Girls taught us anything, it was that mums and daughters can be best friends. Rory and Lorelai warmed our hearts with their mother-daughter movie nights, endless witty banter (including secret code-speak – erm, how cool?!) and the fact that they always had each other’s backs.

6. Jane, Xiomara and Alba Villanueva

One of the things that we love about Jane the Virgin (apart from all the LOLs it gives us, of course) is the fierce dynamic between Jane, her mum Xiomara and her abuela – aka grandma – Alba. Despite the dramas and disagreements, this close-knit trio proved just how strong single mothers are, and showed us that girls really do run the world.

7. Sabrina, Hilda and Zelda Spellman

Navigating high school can be tough – even if you are a secret teenage witch with a talking black cat. Luckily for Sabrina Spellman, her aunts Hilda and Zelda always made sure she was on the right track with their sound advice (OK, so that was mostly Zelda), magical abilities and warm, nurturing relationships. Hashtag aunt goals.

8. Juno and Bren MacGauff

At first, 16-year-old Juno had a bit of an awkward relationship with her step-mum, Bren. But after falling pregnant and deciding to have the baby adopted, the teen had the full support of her step-mum and, by the end, it was plain to see that there was so much love between the two of them. Serious heart-eyes alert.

Furry Faves

If it’s made from faux fur, you know we’re immediately into it, which is why we’re all over the emerging faux fur bag trend. Simone Rocha went for black drawstring pouches (black means they’re work appropriate, right?), Markus Lupfer gave us supersized fold over clutches and See by Chloe nailed the details with fluffy shoulder straps in autumnal hues. You might need a new wardrobe because we’re also swooning over vintage-inspired cuties at Shrimps and Moschino.

Bumbags

The 1980s called: they want their bumbags back. But, sorry not sorry, we’re gonna be keeping them right here in 2018. Sportmax went sleek and paired their structured leather bumbags with everything from turtlenecks to sequin dresses, while Versace went miniature with tiny tartan pouches on chain belts. Models at Marques’Almeida wore theirs low on the hips or slung crossbody and Marc Jacobs went for throwback quilting.

Belt Up

Get ready to cinch every single thing you own, because waist belts are back in a big way. From Gather Pugh’s extra wide 80s throwbacks to JW Anderson’s utilitarian rivets and pouches, there are no limits to how many ways you can work this trend. Make like Temperley and toughen up your dresses with a military style safety buckle belt or take your cues from Delpozo and go all out with supersized add-ons.

You’re gonna want to make some room in your jewellery drawer, because AW18’s jewellery must-have is anything but subtle. From Burberry and Markus Lupfer to House of Holland and Ashley Williams, shoulder-grazing earrings are about to take off. You better believe we won’t be saving them for best though. We’ll be wearing our diamante danglers every day of the week with hoodies and athleisure staples.

Throwback Hair Accessories

The new rule? If you wore them at school, they’re about to be a hit. Ashish took us on a nostalgia trip when they served up sparkling butterfly clips, Alexander Wang went old school and styled his models’ tresses with 90s claw clips and Prabal Gurung has done what we thought was impossible and made zig zag hairbands totally covetable again. AW18 is the season we throw it right back.

Skinny Sunnies

Oversized frames are out, skinny sunnies are in. From Bella to Kendall, some of our style faves have already been working this look and, judging by the AW18 runways, we’re all about to be following their lead. Alexander Wang went for Matrix vibes with his slimline black shades, Off-White and MSGM kept that theme going, and Natasha Zinko brought the colour quota with her popping frames.

How to Wear the Lilac Trend

Move over, millennial pink. Lilac is the colour of  2k18, packing a punch on the catwalks and on the streets, from top-to-toe pastel styling to accent accessories. But mark our words – this season’s sugar-sweet hue is anything but twee, shaking off its cutesy connotations with clean, minimalist shapes and unexpected deets. So get ready to head into the violet hour – here’s how to wear the lilac trend for SS18.

As Seen On

If the French fash pack are anything to go by, this is how to wear lilac well. Breaking out the parma violet feels for Paris Fashion Week, these street stylers bided adieu to winter (see ya, babe) with powder purple suits, wrap-around coats and softly-tailored separates, while out-there accessories came in the shape of tinted shades and shoulder-grazing statement earrings.

1. The Cross-Body Bags

Cross-body bags offer a mega-easy route into the lilac trend, with down-sized designs adding all the spring vibes to any get-up. Grab a swish suede style to wear at big-deal occasions (nights out, weddings and prom – we’re looking at you), or bring a ‘lil lavender to weekend ‘fits with a circle bag – aka the it-accessory of SS18.

2. The Everyday Bags

Wanna take lilac to the next level? Go big with a Scandi-style backpack in the candyfloss colour of the moment, designed with more-than-enough space for your everyday essentials. For something that’s more work-to-weekend, make the supersized tote your number one hun.

3. The Spring Scarf

If the chills are showing no signs of backing down (eye roll) but you’re so over your winter warmers, then consider the pastel scarf your between-season saviour. This pleated piece will make sure you stay wrapped up yet SS18-ready, and it’s all thanks to its poppin’ purple hue. Wear it with a bold knit for now, switching to a cool cami and oversized denim jacket for when the weather *finally* gets its act together.

4. The Earrings

Whether you’re a minimalist or a maximalist (or, y’know, somewhere in between), earrings are a so-now way to tap into the lilac trend. Get in that 90s state of mind with two-tone pastel hoops to wear with sporty shapes and retro get-ups, or swish on over from brunch to bar with beaded tassels, showing ‘em off with slicked-back hair.

1. Beaut Bags

A gal can never have too many bags – and that obvs goes for mums too. Keep her collection topped up with pastel-coloured picks in sweet-as pink, powder blue or soft vanilla, or get her in the swing of spring (it’s coming, we promise) with bloom-covered bags that are sure to give her all the sunny-day feels.

2. Swoon-Worthy Watches

Shop Watches >

Not gonna lie, we wouldn’t know where we’d be without the time-keeping abilities of our mums. To say thanks for getting us EVERYWHERE on time, we think a fancy new watch makes an ideal gift – choose from rose gold, floral and pretty pastel designs, presented in swish ‘lil gift boxes. Win-win.

3. Swish Scarves

Mums + scarves = a match made in heaven. This Mother’s Day, swap out her thick winter knits something more spring-like – we’re talking modern floral prints on pure silks and soft weaves, and cool clashes of pink and red (so Insta-worthy) that’ll have her set for the new season.

4. Pretty Purses

Shop Purses & Wallets >

If you’re looking for a gift that’s small but sweet, then a shiny new purse is the perfect choice of gift. Take your pick from bold beauts sorbet styles and floral-print pieces that are both mega-chic and practical, and – if you’re feeling flush – add on a cute travelcard holder for good measure.

5. Delicate Jewellery

Shop Z for Accessorize >

When it comes to Mother’s Day gifts, jewellery is all-round winner – especially if it’s something that she can keep (and wear) forever. Go for rose gold and gold-plated pieces in delicate designs, embellished with semi-precious stones and cubic zirconia sparkles that feel that extra bit spesh.
