Fashion Month: 5 Accessory Trends to Watch in SS19

Fashion month: it came, it saw, and it left us anticipating the return of those hazy summer days. Need a quick run-down of the key catwalk highlights? From statement hats to the new wave of structured bags, here are the five accessory trends to watch in SS19…

1. Hair Scarves

Hair scarves had a strong presence on the New York runways, borrowing their prints from retro designs and reimagining them in modern ways. Kate Spade (left) added pops of fuschia pink and black to classic scarves and knotted neckerchiefs, while Anna Sui turned turbans on their head with luxe jacquard textures in spring-ready shades of coral and gold.

2. Flip-Flops

Forget everything you knew about flip-flops. An emerging trend from the SS19 shows, the simple summer classic is making its move from the poolside to the city streets, and offsetting its inherently casual feel with dressed-up outfits. Take note of how Tibi’s (left) teamed an androgynous checked suit with a flat black pair, and the chunkier styles seen at Jil Sander (right), styled with crocheted maxis.

3. Box Bags

All hail the ‘it’ bag of SS19. Drawing their inspiration from doctor-like designs, this season’s iterations took structure to the extreme with cuboid shapes and sharp, angular lines – and here lies the proof. Flat, boxy bags in mock-croc textures were spotted at Rejina Pyo in London (left), worn with leopard print for a statement clash, while Milan saw the revival of monochrome with two-tone styles at Jil Sander (right).

4. Statement Hats

Tying in with the travel theme of the new-season collection, statement hats were one of the most prominent accessory trends on the catwalks. Bright beanies at Calvin Klein (left) were on-hand to bridge the gap between winter and the first days of spring, while the floppy hats at Rejina Pyo (right) refreshed resort dressing with polka dot-prints and oversized shapes.

5. Western Fringing

The wild, wild west made its triumphant return to the runways but this time, the focus fell on softer, more feminine shapes instead of the practical outerwear pieces and denim designs usually associated with the classic trend.  From Coach (left) to Longchamp (right), the all-American aesthetic manifested itself through fringed leather jackets worn over prairie-style dresses, and tasselled gladiator sandals that were made with spring in mind.

London Fashion Week: 4 Street Style Trends We Love

Style Series: Olivia & Alice Curate AW18

In our next installment of Style Series, we’re meeting up with sisters and London-based fashion bloggers Olivia and Alice. Renowned for their modern take on maximalism as well as their love for all things bold and bright, the Instagram duo are here to reveal their most-coveted pieces of AW18, and tell us more about their favourite trends, style hacks and more in our exclusive Q&A…

How would you describe your usual style?

Fun, bright and wearable. We like to mix high street and designer together, as well as classic and trend-driven pieces.

What are your favourite pieces from the shoot and why?

The blanket scarves. There’s nothing better than having something to wrap yourself up in for autumn/winter, ready to fight the chill. The gorgeous patterns and colours also mean that your whole outfit can be made by just that one item, plus we love how chunky and soft they are.

What are your top tips for wearing rainbow brights?

Don’t panic or feel that you have to make the rest of your outfit plain. Pick out a colour in the rainbow and match another item of clothing with it.

Checks are a big trend for AW18 – how will you be wearing them?

We are so excited for this trend and fully intend on wearing it from head to toe. We love wearing checked suits right now and clashing it with a different checked bag.

Who is your celebrity style muse and why?

There are a lot of people out there whose style we admire, whether that be our mum, friends or other bloggers, big and small. Right now, we love the German bloggers Xenia Adonts and Caro Daur – they style the latest trends in such a chic, effortless way. If we did have to go with celebrities, we’d have to say Mary-Kate and Ashley – is that too obvious?!

What’s your ultimate style hack?

Don’t forget to add accessories to an outfit – we don’t feel complete without a great pair of earrings or some layered necklaces. Headwear is also set to be a huge trend – think berets, baker boy hats and beanies or, for something more subtle, hair slides.

The Scarves You’ll Be Wearing All Winter

If the crisp, early morning air is anything to go by, cold-weather days are well on their way – meaning now is the time to slip into something a little cosier.  The first thing on our list? The perfect scarf. From oversized blanket styles to sumptuous faux fur favourites, here are the scarves you’ll be wearing all winter…

1. Colour Theory

Proving that they’re not solely for summer, rainbow brights are holding their own as we move through AW18. Bold hues of blue, violet, pink, orange and mustard yellow are seen across the season’s statement scarves, mixing with super-soft textures and long-line designs to create an ‘it’ accessory that’ll keep you cosy as temperatures fall.

2. Blanket Term

Blanket scarves might not be anything new but this season, the coveted cold-weather staple feels fresher than ever before. The secret to its style revival lies in its new-found fondness for pattern and print, from striking rainbow stripes to cut-about spots in cool monochrome palettes. We’ll be wearing ours with everything from denim jackets to cosy winter coats.

3. Check Please

The perennial print of our autumn/winter wardrobes, checks have undergone a style overhaul for the season ahead. While classic tartans and plaids still remain relevant, the new era of checked scarves are here with oversized motifs and unexpected colour combinations, elevating the everyday with something that feels a little more directional.

4. Fur Time

The faux fur scarf is back but not as you know it. Having moved on from the soft-touch stoles and capes that feel more suited to after-dark invites, this season’s plush pieces will slot straight into your everyday wardrobe, providing unrivalled warmth in cold, blustery weather. From faux fur snoods in deep berry shades to teddy-textured scarves in bold fuchsia, these sumptuous styles are set to become the ultimate fashion investment as chilly days make their way back in.

1. Baker Boy Hats

As seen on the capital’s streets for London Fashion Week, baker boy hats are back in a big way for AW18. Taking you from campus to catch-ups over coffee, this season’s key buys come in classic black, powdery pastels and heritage checks, and, in turn, offer a myriad of simple yet effective styling options. Wear with everything from oversized aviator jackets to slouchy knits and boyfriend jeans.

2. New-Season Bags

Need a bag for the new term? From sleek city backpacks in butter-soft suede to bucket bags and oversized totes in statement shades and prints, these new-season styles will slot seamlessly into your wardrobe, rather than being solely limited to lecture halls. We like how each one features thoughtful design details – think sturdy structures and adjustable straps.

3. Resin Earrings

Resin earrings are continuing to make their mark on AW18, combining cool colourways and sculptural shapes for something that feels fashion-forward and directional. Take your pick from long-drop designs in tortoiseshell textures, marbled finishes and glossy golds, and wear them to elevate your look with minimum effort.

4. Blanket Scarves

As the cold weather sets in, oversized blanket scarves are an essential investment for AW18 – and especially if you’re looking to refresh last year’s winter coat. Bold brights and luxe leopard prints are the way to go for statement-making style, while heritage checks in classic colour palettes are on-hand to provide more subtle updates.

5. Student Essentials

Covered off most of your fashion wish-list? It’s time to turn to the essentials. Think pyjamas, slippers and toiletry bags for halls and rented homes, and other student basics such as stationery and reusable water bottles for those hours spent studying.

3 New Accessory Trends for AW18

London Fashion Week: What the Bloggers Wore

And with that, London Fashion is over for another season. Between the runway shows, events and after-parties, we took to the city streets with three of our favourite influencers – Georgia India, Juliette Foxx and Laura Byrnes – to find out more about their personal style and hear about their most-coveted buys for AW18. This is what they had to say…

Georgia India

Tell us about the Accessorize pieces you’re wearing…

For the first day of London Fashion Week, I opted for a minimal outfit, wearing a beige blazer with an oversized black tee and cycling shorts –the perfect blank canvas to showcase some exciting accessories. I styled it up with statement beaded earrings with sequins and a stunning embellished bag with a ring handle and tassels. I also added delicate stack rings for something a little more understated.

Which trends are you most excited about for AW18 and why?

Everything and anything animal print. Incorporating it into your look is so much fun. I’m also loving oversized blazers – I think they’re really classy.

What are the three signature fashion pieces that you can’t live without?

A classic black bag, statement earrings and layered necklaces.

If you could trade wardrobes with one person, who would it be and why?

The Scandinavian influencer, Josefine Husskie. I adore everything thing she wears – it’s so classic and timeless.

If you could go back in time, what fashion era would you love to live in and why?

I would love to go back to the seventies. I adore flared trousers and loved they way they would blow dry their hair. I feel like the disco scene would have been so much fun too.

Juliette Foxx

Tell about the Accessorize pieces you’re wearing…

I have a thing for clashing animal prints. They might not get along in the wild but they go so well together in fashion. I’m wearing this animal-print cross-body bag and belt to disrupt my look a little and elevate it from a fashionable look to a stylish look – give it a little more personality, you know? Also, who can say no to a cinched-in waist?

Which trends are you most excited about for AW18 and why?

There’s been a massive animal print revival and I’m here for it but also, neon. I want it all!

What are the three signature fashion pieces that you can’t live without?

Sunglasses, sunglasses and sunglasses. I never leave my house without a pair. For me, they make the outfit. I also enjoy people’s stares as I walk down the streets in the winter wearing them. They think I’m crazy. I also love a good watch and stylishly stacked jewellery.

If you could trade wardrobes with one person, who would it be and why?

Anna Dello Russo. She’s the ultimate street style queen and I’ll probably morph into her when I grow up

If you could go back in time, what fashion era would you love to live in and why?

I really love the individuality of nineties dressing. The style was a lot more expressive back and definitely more fun.

Laura Byrnes

Tell us about the Accessorize pieces you’re wearing…

I’m wearing the wicker bag and lots of gold accessories. I love all of the neutral tones and the bag works so perfectly with the pared-back palette. The gold jewellery completely finishes off the look. The Z for Accessorize collection is so gorgeous.

Which trends are you most excited about for AW18 and why?

As I’ve mentioned, neutral tones are my absolute favourite at the moment! They’re so easy to wear, and you can mix and match really easily. Animal print is another trend that I’m obsessed with right now – they add so much style to any outfit.

What are the three signature fashion pieces that you can’t live without?

A statement bag, layered gold necklaces and a scarf for those bad hair days!

If you could trade wardrobes with one person, who would it be and why?

Aylin Koenig – her look is so effortlessly cool and I love the way she styles every outfit.

If you could go back in time, what fashion era would you love to live in and why?

I think it would have to be the sixties. The style was amazing and luckily, mini A-line skirts and turtlenecks are a winning combination for this season too.

5 New-In Earrings Loved by Buyers & Bloggers

Loved by us, loved by them. Seek inspiration for your new-season jewellery edit with five new-in earrings approved by bloggers and Accessorize buyers…

1. Muted Mustard

Mustard is having a moment right now, with the modern, muted tone of yellow seen across this season’s key accessories. We love how fashion blogger Yatri is taking on the trend with shoulder-grazing tassels, updated for the arrival of AW18 with enamel and tortoiseshell textures. Show yours off with a messy ponytail.

2. Cosmic Constellations

Want to create the perfect curated ear? Inspired by the night skies, tiny, twinkling constellations in gold-tone metals are proving to be a firm favourite on our Instagram feeds.  Clash yours with statement pieces like blogger Amelia Taylor or wear them solo – as seen on one of our junior buyers, Luisa.

3. Bold Sculptures

Retro has been revived for AW18 and the coolest way to interpret the trend is through architectural acrylics, as seen on blogger Bex. Pops of orange – another key colour for the season ahead – are unexpectedly paired with berry and gold, creating a statement-making look that nods to nostalgia.

4. New Geometrics

Geometric shapes have moved beyond simple, Scandi silhouettes, with the seventies now serving as the trend’s main style influence. Crafted in chunky oblong shapes, this sleek resin pair are detailed with marbled discs for a cool contrast – we like how they work equally as well with buyer MJ’s swept-back hair, as they do with blogger Holly’s high pony.

5. Retro Gold

Out with the old? Not quite yet. Taking their design direction from retro shapes, and updating their aesthetic with glossy golds and soft, curved lines, this statement-making pair feel fresh for the new season. Wear yours to elevate pared-back looks like junior buyer Laura.

5 Animal-Print Accessories to Go Wild Over

This season, we’re trusting our animal instincts. From leopard print to faux snakeskin, fashion is taking a turn for the wild as we enter AW18 and, the good news is, there’s a myriad of ways to wear the trend that everyone’s talking about. Want to start slow? Here are five animal-print accessories to go wild over…

1. The Leopard-Print Bag

First up: the leopard-print bag. A contemporary classic that no new-season wardrobe should be without, this luxe leather design is textured with small-scale spots for a more modern take on animal styling.  Wear yours from AM to PM.

2. The Snakeskin Bag

Leopard isn’t the only print on the prowl. Snakeskin has also slithered onto the high street for AW18, and nude-hued designs are easily the most effortless way to tap into the trend. Case in point? This sleek, structured bag in off-white, complete with snakeskin styling and – for extra dose of glamour – gold-tone metal studs along the sides.

3. The Clashing Cross-Body

Why have one print when you could have two? Clashing leopard spots with zebra stripes, this cross-body bag stands out without straying into garish territory. A leather-look backdrop in clean black breaks up the boldness, giving you a new-season hero piece that’s both fierce and instantly wearable. We love.

4. The Animal-Print Belt

Blink and you’ll miss it: animal-print belt are here to make the subtlest of statements for AW18. Whether you opt for leopard spots or faux snakeskin, these outfit add-ons are the quickest way to update your favourite pair of jeans. For easy glamour, finish with a white shirt and a pair of slip-on loafers.

5. The Leopard Satchel

If satchels still feel a little too schoolgirl for your liking then there’s a simple way to get them looking a little more adult-appropriate: just add animal print. A downsized version of the classroom classic, this boxy black number is patterned with leopard spots for a more grown-up aesthetic. Let yours take you from work to the weekend.

Style Insider: Naomi Ross’ AW18 Picks

Make way for our next style insider: Naomi Ross (@naaomiross). See how the fashion blogger will be wearing the key trends of AW18 from this season to next, and find out more about her style loves in our exclusive Q&A…

How would you describe your usual style?

I’d say my style is quite feminine with a twist. I’m always playing with print and colour clashing, and love to mix things up, whether that’s wearing stripes with polka dots, or red with pink.

What are your favourite pieces from the shoot and why?

My favourite piece would have to be the stripe scarf – it’s so versatile. You can style it in your hair to add some extra detail to a simple look, have it as a handbag accessory and even use it as a wrap… everyone needs one!

Who is your celebrity style muse and why?

To be honest, I don’t have one particular celebrity style muse. Instead, I like to take pieces of fashion inspiration from different people, whether that be a celebrity, a friend, a look I’ve seen on Instagram or even just someone on the tube. Style inspiration is everywhere!

10 Best Moments from Love Island 2018

Wait, what? It’s the Love Island final already? Another marathon season is drawing to a close and just like last year, we literally don’t know what we’ll do without it. Join us in some reminiscing with our top ten best moments from Love Island 2018… *wipes away tears*.

1. Rosie vs Adam: Round 1

Yep, the Rosie and Adam era of Love Island feels like forever ago, but this showdown is still just as epic. Nothing gives us more satisfaction than seeing a bad boy be taken down a peg, and with all her sass and dramatics Rosie was the perfect candidate. You go, girl.

2. When Jack and Dani made it official

A post shared by Love Island (@loveisland) on

They’re the strongest and longest-running couple in the villa and have pretty much had us smiling every episode: our Jani obsession is very real. That being said, when Jack asked Dani to be his official girlfriend there were hearts melting all across the country. This is what this show was made for, people.

3. When Josh walked in with Kaz

Oh, Josh. While we’re seriously crushing on him and Kaz as a couple now, we’ve never felt so tense as when he walked in from Casa Amor with her.  The look on Georgia’s face still has us squirming with awkwardness – talk about savage.

4. THAT kiss between Georgia and Jack

Whether you’re Team Jack or Team Georgia, there’s no denying how much controversy they caused with THAT kiss. Did he go for a cheek peck? Did she try to lock lips? We’ll let you decide…

5. When Samira left for her man

Samira Mighty is the unofficial queen of the villa this season – never has a contestant stayed truer to herself. Waiting it out for Mr Right to walk in seemed borderline hopeless until Frankie turned up at Casa Amor – and then was torn away in a shock dumping. Leaving the show to pursue their relationship just made us love her even more.

6. Every time the boys free-styled

A post shared by Love Island (@loveisland) on

Two months in one villa is sure to drive anyone crazy, and we can’t help but LOL at how the boys kept everybody entertained. From New Jack’s hilarious raps to the serenades of Wes, Josh and Old Jack, we were in stitches at these freestyled tracks.

7. Laura’s face in the lie detector challenge

A post shared by itv2 (@itv2) on

To say Laura Anderson had a rough ride in the Love Island villa is a total understatement, so naturally we were begging for this girl to catch a break. When she got given the majorly awkward task of questioning Jack in the lie detector challenge (nice one, producers) her smugness at his ‘LIE’ answers had us cracking up big time. It’s all about the little wins.

8. The boys’ baby obstacle course

A post shared by Love Island (@loveisland) on

Love Island 101: never commit to a boy until you’ve seen how they cope with the baby challenge. While New Jack’s adoration for baby Aubrey was too cute for words, some of the lads fared a little worse. We’re looking at you Dr Alex for throwing your kid out the pram – possibly one of the funniest moments ever.

9. When Alexandra’s mum roasted Dr Alex

A post shared by Love Island (@loveisland) on

Hell hath no fury like a mamma scorned. No one wants to see their baby girl get dumped by a boy – let alone on national TV – so it’s no surprise Alexandra’s mum laid into Dr Alex on meet-the-parents day. Our favourite? “You’re not nearly as red in the flesh as sometimes it comes across on TV.” Cutting.

10. When Georgia was #loyal

A post shared by Love Island (@loveisland) on

First things first, she’s the realest. The best memes from the entire series are all down to Ms Keeping-him-on-his-toes herself, Georgia Steel. We’re unsure of exactly how many times she managed to squeeze the word ‘loyal’ into a sentence, but we’re pretty sure there aren’t enough hands in the entire cast to count. She managed to half live up to her rep, right?
